I have seen multiple movies in theaters with Captions. Mostly subbed anime.

I would love CC at the movies. I use it ALL the time when watching TV because I only have 70% hearing in my left ear and about 10% in my right ear (lost 50% due to a scuba diving accident 35 years ago - gotten worse over time).

Before my hearing loss I used to abhor CC. Now I depend on them.

It's absolutely outrageous and insulting to say I don't have empathy for the disabled because I don't want all movies to have captions on them all the time. That would be an extreme solution to a problem that is already being resolved in other ways that don't affect the quality of the theatrical experience for every viewer.

But of course, because making things easier for the disabled who struggle in ways you don't understand NATURALLY has to be seen as negatively impacting the non-disabled.

No, you're making yourself worse. To imply that someone either wants captions on all movie screenings, or they're hateful and intolerant, is totally unfair.

Sometimes I watch foreign movies in theaters that are in a language I already understand. Do I throw a hissyfit because *I* don't need the subtitles? No, I just don't look at them... easiest thing in the world

I pretty much keep subtitles on at home all the time, it just helps understanding what's being said, especially if its unusual accents.

That being said though, I really wish there was an option to only see dialog. I don't like seeing glass klinks or mellow music plays.

With some discs and some streamers, you may be able to choose... I think some offer a choice between "SDH" and "English subtitles" (which is what you're looking for)

When I had Netflix and was just using TV speakers I usually watched with subtitles on but since switching to UHD and a surround system I haven't used them except for Nolan films.

I do the same, even during the day. I simply don’t mind CC on my blu-rays/DVDs if the occasion calls for it.

It’s one of the reasons why rewatches work better at home because so much information glosses over you at the theater.
