Default Best profesional 1080p camera

What is the best 1090p/2k/4k camrecorder prefer it with a 7.1 mic if they do it.

There are no 7.1 mics. Pros use mono mics, so I presume your after a consumer camcorder. Get either the Sony HDR-SR11 or HDR-SR12. I promise you it's the one to get. Zeiss lens, records on hard drive or memory stick in 17mbs AVCHD with a 1/2.8inch Exmor CMOS sensor with 5.1 audio recording. It is compact and it does 10.2 megapixel still images.

If you were after a semi-professional cam, then PMW-EX1 is the one to get, but that has a stereo mic and a mono shotgun

Yes. HVX200 is a good quality low-end professional camera. Canon XHA1, Sony V1 are sort of same caliber. Of course there are various views on performance of these cameras.

All these cameras record two channel stereo. If 5.1 or 7.1 surround is needed this would be recorded on a multitrack recorder using mono mics and mix in the post.

Some consumer cameras have 5.1 mics. I am not sure about 7.1.

i have a sony SR7 and i despise the 5.1 mic. it pics up far too much ambient noise. i was recording a live theatre production and my audio was all messed up cuz someone behind me was chatty.

i say cannon xl-h1 or if you really want one of the best to get 2k-4k then get a red one camera, surround mics are not used in the industry as most sound effects are added in post production but if you really want one go with holophone or DPA they are some of the best and only

so lets see redone camera for 2k to 4k $20,000
lense set for the redone $15,000-20,000
surround mic $5,000-$10,000
red lcd,charger,vf,drive. about $10,000-15,000

so your total comes to $65,000 for camera and mounted mic

the xl-h1 will still run you $10,000

or you can go consumer and get a 1080p for around $900 but for about the same price i think you would be better doing without the hd and getting a cannon xl1

I understand the PMW-EX1 is just about perfect for it's price, unfortunately no timecode in or genlock (for multicam purposes) but rivals picture quality of cameras that are much more expensive. I am going to have a go with one at the end of the month. Keep eyes posted for new Sony product announcements at NAB in the next couple of weeks.

As far as consumer 5.1 recordings go, this may be worth looking in to.

new Sony pro HD camcorder announced: PMW-EX3. Same as EX1, but with interchangable lens, half-shoulder/hand-held (similar to Canon XL series), genlock and timecode.

This looks great. The RRP (5995 pounds) could be bit high for prosumers.

HVX all the way. I've had mine about four months now. Wouldn't trade it for any other camera.

Hmm not even an F23? HVX seem pretty good, but I am a Sony man, I don't use Panasonics so I can't really comment on them. I think the Panasonic HPX170 looks good, and probably priced more competitively against Sony. And if i were to look at Panasonics, it would be the HPX170 for the FULL HD against the 200. My concern with Panasonic though, despite it's 1/3 inch CCDs against Sony's 1/2 inch CMOS sensors, is the less efficient recording format. Sony uses long-gop MPEG 2 at 35mb/s. Panasonic uses the 100Mb/s which is less efficient, but at first people thought that it must have been better. Not anymore. Now that editing systems handle the XDCAM HD formats, people seem to like it better. Panasonic are bringing out AVCHD Pro camcorders, I guess indicating how inefficient P2 is. Again, with 1/3 inch CCDs, which I will believe to be less superior to Sony's CMOS, but takes the AVCHD in consumer camcorders to a higher bit rate of 24mb/s. With it's lower price than the EX1, it would be a good one to look at, but not a better camera. In any event, the prices of EX1 are coming down, and for semi-pro that's the one to get, and if multi-cam set up, EX3. Here's the Panasonic AG-HMC150 AVCHD PRO

not to mention 8 mic pre amps, and A>D audio conversion for 8 inputs and then a DAW or HD Audio recorder synced to the video..
much more expensive than thought..
then you'd need a DAW to mix and edit in post production.

and that's basic.. you'd probably want limiters and such on the 8 mic sources.

Again.. probably best to do a single shotgun mic and then add sound effects and such in post.

Professional??? RED1. Camcorders, if that's what you're asking, are not really professional unless your going HD Betacam.

Red's claim to achieving UHD is a little misleading....VERY misleading, but I am sure they will be one of the first to get there. I will take on of those Epic cameras though.

Red smashes anything the HVX or EX1 can produce. The Redone is like the Viper and Genesis being used in Hollywood now on pictures being shot on HD, rivals that quality for $17500 base price for the camera compared to $250,000+ for the others listed.

Red is raising the bar for quality as well as lowering the hefty price tag to put these wonderful cameras in the hands of filmmakers. Being a film student, I love what the Redone produces and can't wait to see what the Epic and the Scarlet have to offer.

Btw, Scarlet is going to blow the HVX and EX1 out of the water, and it'll be 1/2 the price tag (3K).

Your kinda correct apart from i dont think the red one should be compared to the HVX or the EX1, their different price ranges and types of cameras.

The only beef i have for Red is that they seem to be a flakey company as in products are always delayed and often not available when they do get fully released.

They need to get a big sponsor / partnership to help them get their products into the mainstream and really start trying to compete with Sony, Panasonic, Canon etc.
