And the funny thing is, no matter how many times Funimation has released DBZ(original), there still hasn't been a release of the TV series that I felt 100% satisfied with. The Level Sets for Blu-ray came the closest though.

With Dragonball, I don't remember ever being disappointed by its releases. For GT, The Complete Series boxset is pretty close.

Anime Classics Serial Experiments lain Complete Collection turned up today from RightStuf. First thing I gotta say, I really like the 'Anime Classic' spine design, very clean and unobtrusive. Like the old Bandai 'Anime Legends' DVD sets. Definitely better then the garish SAVE design.

I popped it in to watch the first episode, mostly because I've never seen it before I was wanted see what all the fuss was about.

That sure was more then a bit surreal. Interested to see where it goes. Though I'm kind of glad its on 13 episodes if its going to be like this all the time.

From a technical standpoint, I noticed the banding (because I was looking for it), but I'll agree that the problem might have been a tad overstated.

Question, is this is an SD upconvert? Or was this cel animated? I feel like this was post-digital animation. But I didn't notice any significant aliasing on the lineart, which is generally a telltale sign of an upconvert (looking at you FLCL)

I tell you Jim, you'll never forget Lain.

It's weird, creepy, confusing yet very gripping. Enjoy it!

Pre-digital, cell animated. I recommend turning the brightness down on your display a few notches while you're watching it.

A little late to the party aren't they? I don't know, I suppose if they release it with lossless audio and I can unload my Bandai discs for a good amount, I'd buy it.

At least he can count on help from his friends, though how much help they'll be is debatable. When she's not attending her first year of high school, she even invents new flavors and varieties for Tama-ya, her family's mochi shop. School and growing up, on the other hand, are things that she's still trying to find the right recipe for. But with the help of her best friends Kanna and Midori, Tamako's determined to make the best of things. It's complicated though, especially when it comes to emotions and her relationship with her best BOY friend Mochizo, whose family runs a rival mochi shop. And lately, Kanna's been feeling a little odd about her feelings towards Tamako as well. And what's with up with that strange bird fluttering around, the one that speaks fluent Japanese? It's all very mysterious and overwhelming, but at least Tamako always has one thing she can count on: No matter if your day's been good or bad, there's certain to be something sugary and delicious waiting at the end of every adventure whenever you take a walk through TAMAKO MARKET!

As the fight against the Wulgaru continues, it's harder to determine what the real objectives of Team Rabbits are, and the arrival of a new addition to team's lineup only further confuses things. The unwritten rules of mecha combat teams seem to require that there's always at least one mysterious loner in the group, but the enigmas and conundrums surrounding Ange Kuroki are so extreme that even the new pilot's gender is a riddle! As the pieces of the puzzle come together and the layers of the riddle slowly peel back, it becomes apparent that everything Izuru, Asagi, Kei, Tamaki and Suruga have encountered are interconnected to a greater extent than they ever imagined. Deadly reversals and shocking revelations await in the second stunning collection of Majestic Prince!

Determined to see that the beat goes on, Ritsu can get a little help from her friend Mio Akiyama on bass, and together they might be able to convince choir-inclined Tsumugi Kotobuki to join on the keyboards. But even then, they’ll still need a hero, preferably of the juke-box variety with stars in her eyes. Instead they find Yui Hirasawa, who’s looking for a club to join and who’s never held a guitar in her life. But when Yui does pick up a beat-up six-string, it feels good in her hands, and it doesn’t take long to understand that maybe she’s finally found a place where she belongs. Because you can’t stop the music when four girls share a dream, even if it’s something as crazy as someday playing at the famous Budokan. It’s going to be a long and winding road, but if they find their passion and follow their muse, they could go anywhere in K-ON!

SYNOPSIS: Natsuru used to dream of being a lady killer. Instead, he got turned into a Kämpfer - a lady who's supposed to fight and kill other girls in mortal combat! That would cause enough problems all on its own, but it turns out that his best childhood friend swings the other way and she has a crush on her new body. Not to mention that his school has separate sections for boys and girls, and now he's enrolled in BOTH of them. And the rumor-mill has it that he's dating herself. Then there are those other pesky Kämpfers who want to "take her out". He's just not sure which ones mean "on a date" and which ones mean "permanently"! Well, since it's DVD-only, I guess I won't have to worry about it.

Looks like I get to keep the Bandai Blu-rays for awhile longer.

As for the other titles I am interested in, some of them are DVD-only too. But Kampfer, Fate, Golden Time, Listen to Me, Girls. I Am Your Father! and Yakumo on Blu-ray is quite nice though.

K-On! recently got an English-subtitled Blu-ray box in Japan. That's probably a contributing factor to this upcoming ADV release being DVD-only. We'll have to see what happens.

Isn't it blocky and yellow? I prefer that to small and white like Funi usually does.

I would lie down without my glasses on and watch stuff when I was on my 42" Pioneer. Can't say I was a fan of those tiny FUNi subs. It's not a problem at all now, of course.
