To be released on January 26:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00NXYYAQ...29&camp=211189 Could this be worth upgrading the Criterion? I dont know, but lets see. Last edited by BigNickUK; 03-05-2018 at 05:55 AM. |

EDIT: don't think it is cancelled - it's still on the front page of the Network site, the listing's still there on the Network site, and they recently uploaded a clip onto their YouTube channel (just last week): Maybe Amazon cocked up the listing? |

Criterion has released the 1940 version on DVD, which grim_tales owns. He's wondering whether this release is enough of an upgrade.

I'm gonna say it's still definitely coming out and someone accidentally deleted the listing or something at Amazon's end. Not been pulled anywhere else. Crisis averted! |

sorry, you didn't mention DVD in your post and I assumed as this is a bluray site you were referring to that. Plus, its the blu ray so yes would be worth the upgrade

This is one of the films I'd been hoping Criterion would upgrade to blu-ray. It'll be nice to support Network without having to re-buy films Criterion has already released (This Happy Breed, Black Narcissus, The Lady Vanishes, The Man Who Knew Too Much etc.). Network is my favourite UK distributor at the moment.
I'd love to see more Powell & Pressburger films on blu-ray, especially A Canterbury Tale. I read a couple of years ago that the BFI was working on a restoration but that seems to have gone quiet. Criterion's DVD of A Canterbury Tale was enough to win my loyalty for life! |

I'll wait and see if the extras are ported over and what the transfer is like

Received it today. No slip unfortunately, only has the trailer and 2 sets of galleries for special features. It's region locked to B. I watched about half an hour of it so far, if I had to give a score for video and audio, it'd be 3/5 for video and 4/5 for audio, was suprised how good it sounded.
The case is U.S sized. [Show spoiler]

I didn't notice any DNR, sharpening or edge enhancement. I think it does need to be restored a little better. The quality just seemed very average.
