Japan only has season 1 and 2 at the moment. I'm assuming they will eventually put everything out on Bluray. Discotek will probably trail behind the Japanese blurays.

If that's the case its going to take super long for them to release all of it

Reminds me of the ADV DVD brick releases.

Discotek isn't really doing DVD anymore. When they only have SD masters available, it's cheaper and easier to do SD-BD because they can get good deals on doing nothing but BD with the replicators and it saves them money in shipping and packaging because entire series can fit on a single disc. The same also applies for HD releases on BD, because it's just sensible to skip the DVD buyers. DVD has no place in today's anime market, except in those instances where a 1-2 disc release is the only sensible choice and even that is rare, except in the cases where only ancient digital SD sources are available.

I don’t think that’s such a big deal. We got Season 1 and a movie this year. It actually gives us time to consume it and get excited for the next season to be released. That means City Hunter will be on people’s minds for years to come. Not bad for a series over 20+ years old.

I would also say for my mileage, I think City Hunter is better in chunks. There is very little continuous story. I watched a bunch of episodes in a row before, and the episodes feel repetitive. It's a great show to jump in a catch a few episodes between series or an episode or so every so often.

Everyone does have different viewing habits, and I can certainly appreciate when you get into a groove and love the show's universe and vibe.

For anyone has Shinjuku Private Eyes on BD,

what are your thoughts on the film and the actual BD in terms of picture/sound/etc?

My copy of Volume 1 just showed up, and for grins I spun up the old ADV disc. Wow, the difference is night and day. For just one example, the pink butterfly that Ryo reaches for in the end credits - on the DVD it's a vaguely butterfly shaped pink blob, but on the blu its clear and distinct.

Pity that Discotek couldn't include the production sketches from the ADV set, but that one lone extra isn't worth keeping that massive old brick for.

Apparently the Shinjuku Private Eyes BD may have a mixing error on the BD? This is seemingly only on the Japanese audio only?

I havent ordered the disc yet, but should we wait to avoid getting an affected disc?
IS the affected disc only at right stuff or is it on amazon sold discs as well?

Thanks.

Amazon should have the discs with the error. The initial batch on Rightstuf also has the error, but currently they're not shipping any copies until they receive the new discs.

I'm only just hearing about this. Is there going to be a replacement setup? I have one of the early RightStuf discs.

You can request a replacement disc through Justin Sevakis

Got an email about the replacement plan. Makes me a little nervous I have to break the disc before I receive my replacement. Makes sense, but still is gonna feel unpleasant breaking it knowing I don't have it yet. Appreciate that they're doing it though.

Same here. I’d gladly break it after I got the new one but doing it before has me a bit uneasy as well.
