You’ll be very pleased to hear that is actually in the works.

Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira Gets New Anime Project

Manga creator and anime director Katsuhiro Otomo announced at his Anime Expo panel on Thursday that a new anime project of his Akira manga is in the works.

Sunrise president and CEO Makoto Asanuma apologized for the short teaser presented at the panel, and while the staff is still developing the project, Asanuma said that they want to incorporate the entirety of the manga's story.

"Freedom", the last joint venture between Sunrise and Otomo was CG. This most likely will be too. Unfortunately...

I hope any series from Japan will not be CG or have some CG characters in them.

Maybe one day we will get a good version of RG Veda. The OVA was such a mess though I do like the character designs.

A couple I thought of:

King of Thorn - An anime series which ignored the movie and began over; I like the movie though)
Nausicaa - The movie is great and I would like to see a show(s) set within that world, either covering events earlier in the timeline or something else

More Gunsmith Cats would be cool, too.
Hmm, a Redline series? Didn't think of that but that could be cool!

Wasn't the "Read or Die" movie and TV series also very different from each other?

Anyone what?

As for the ROD TV series you asked about 11 months ago, it's different yet similar. It's somewhat of a sequel to the OVA, the main character in the OVA does appear in the TV series in a significant role later on.

Ultimately, anime fans have a tendency to prefer TV series over movies/OVA, but when they actually get the TV series spinoff, it often isn't as good as the original shorter work it spawned from. Examples include Record of Lodoss Wars, Blood the Last Vampire (yes, the original 40 minute OVA is still the most gritty and visceral experience), Street Fighter II, I could probably go on.

This is because for a shorter OVA/movie to get a spinoff, it has to make a big impact to begin with. The catch 22 is the spinoff can usually never match the impact of the popular shorter OVA/movie, while weaker OVA/movies that could be vastly improved upon aren't popular enough to warrant a spinoff that would better them.

A TV series adaptation of 3x3 Eyes would be interesting.

A good version of Venus Wars would be nice though it would have never that nice animation.

A series adaptation of VW would be Gundam SEED-grade digipaint animation and mid-level tone or at least it would have been such back in the heyday of war shows. It might be a little different now, though I can see it probably being like Gundam Origins.

I hope that Soul Eater, The Promised Neverland, Bokurano, and Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer get more accurate adaptations.
I also hope that Deadpool Samurai, SBR, and the rest of Nichijou get adaptations.
