Watching the wild and wacky world of The Web Planet tonight.

Still better than anything Chibnall came up with.

The Web Planet is a masterpiece. I refuse to accept otherwise.

I was 8 years old when it was broadcast.
Possibly my earliest exposure to vaseline.

That story was hyped and they spent a lot of money on that story, at the very least it was one of their biggest budgeted stories.

It feels to me like they switched to a lower quality of paper for the booklet this time... unless it's just my copy or something... shame as the booklets are a big attraction for me.

Have now received three copies from Amazon... all three arrived with their respective disc trays detached and back designs damaged.

So that's the third one being sent back.

I mean, would it really be so hard for the BBC to make these box sets come with a form fitted foam insert or something similar inside to fill out the empty space and prevent the fragile parts from being jerked around during shipping?!

People have complained about the disc trays coming loose since day one. However, this one is the first time it's happened to me.

This is the biggest set yet, and it looks like the glue and backing simply can't hold the weight anymore. I don't think foam would make any difference.

I'm just living with it - I buy these to enjoy, and won't see the backing on the shelf.

I agree. I've heard complaints about this since the first set, but I've been lucky that it's never happened to me until this S2 set. Thankfully, I already had a second set on order (I didn't trust that Amazon UK was going to get my set to the US at all, so I ordered a backup copy for delivery to a UK friend, who forwarded it on) and that one was in much better shape than the one I ultimately got from Amazon UK. I'm glad I was able to get one in one piece!

It’s already out. Beyond that, what do you mean? The Beatles? It’s present on the UK release.

Yes, the Beatles part. Sorry...got my regions mixed up. Will it be on the Region A (Western Hemisphere/ASEAN/Japan/Koreas) release? I want to know if I should spend the extra money to buy it now, or it's worth waiting for my domestic release.

Is there any information if there will be a single Release of "The Crusade"
I just bought the whole Series last year, accept of course the Missing Storylines and I don't want to buy the whole Season 2.

Last I heard they couldn't animate The Crusade as it was too costly.

The surviving episodes of The Crusade, plus audio from the missing ones, can be found in the Lost in Time set.

According to Who Twitter Australians didn’t get Ticket to Ride on their copy of The Chase. Which means Americans won’t get Ticket to Ride on our copy of The Chase. Guess I’ll have to import the DVD. Which sucks because it only came out as a set with The Space Museum.

The Planet Of Giants was alright.
William Russell's interview was pretty good despite been diagnosed with Dementia and physically looks pretty good even for his 90s.

The Dalek Invasion Of Earth.
The original VHS tape Ep 4 sounded much fresher. The DVD used a source down so it sounded more optical and the blu ray unfortunately repeats this error.
Ep 5 probably doesn't sound as fresh as the vhs caused by some restoration but it's very minor.
It's mentioned in the archive holdings Ep 5 has 2 audio sources: the seperate magnetic track which is the transmission master, and the optical track is the unmixed audio it wasn't included so it would have been nice to hear the differences.
* mentioned in the dvd release:
https://restorationteam.impossibleth...et/serialk.htm
It also says TDIoE has an enhanced audio mix exclusive to the Blu Ray, R Bignell said its the Dalek voices and its their voice are now modulated to make them more gratier than too human as they originally sounded. Pity in ep 6 when the Daleks brain is getting fried they originally didn't realise how more effective it might have sounded for the story.

Now for the comm, extras then the other stories.

Planet of Giants is bloody amazing considering the source they had to work with for episode 3! So while if you were oblivious you might think it poor, but the mere fact it doesn't have double imaging everytime something moves is a miracle of restoration.

I'd love to know what tool they used as it makes a good job of something once thought unrepairable, I think they've used the same on other stuff like the out of phase film inserts in Terror of the Autons.

All good from The Rescue thru to The Time Meddler.

Planet Of Giants & The Crusade - both missed out a Behund The Sofa segment.

The Crusade: The Lion - the scuffing is nearly gone and Vidfired it looks good.

The Web Planet: Episode 3 - after the reprise tape quality sound!!! For the first 10 minutes until the end of the chocolate scene. Not even on the VHS so this is a huge upgrade.

The Chase - well what'd you expect "1965" [snip] "(ticking) I think you better turn it off" the whole Beatles sequence got gutted, and you'd think Universal could have sorted some arrangement out with the BBC & the Beatles I mean the clip is so common and can be anywhere on the net in 1 second. Funny how the DVD went out uncut years ago.

The Time Meddler - vidfire and makes a breaks from that unprocessed vhs/dvd versions.

The extras were excellent too mind you you'll have to wait till Seasons 1 & 3 till you toss out the dvds for the extras that haven't migrated onto Blu Ray.

Overall another great box.
