Folks i just purchased the UK copy complete with limited edition packaging off one of New Zealand's big websites. They are definitely still out there, so don't bother paying 400 pounds.

It's not slowdown, it uses a different refresh rate, which in some way will cause some artifacts. I've heard good things of this one, unlike the first two seasons of Torchwood which have a really bad ghosting/blending issue, but it'll still be there in some way. I really prefer a native presentation, it won't detract my enjoyment, but still.

The 50hz / 60hz matter was mentioned to them several times long before the title was released and they claimed that because the episodes were converted into HD first the usual 50hz to 60hz issues would not be evident |

Because they were converted to HD first, the US conversion benefits from the full PAL resolution.
The frame rate still needs to be converted. When done well (and I believe these are) they can look excellent, but there are still artefacts even if modern motion estimation eliminates stuttering and ugly frame blends. |

I pre-ordered this when it was first announced but ended up cancelling it thinking "that's a little too expensive right now, I'll pick it up later"
been kicking myself ever since but I have made sure to keep up with every other Collection boxset since then |

Has anybody seen a final price of these on Ebay? I saw one yesterday and it was at Ł310 pounds with a few hours to go, this was for a used item. Crazy money!!

More money than sense. I can live with the US version rather than pay silly prices!

I wonder if the British newspapers would be interested in this story. I mean, much as I hate the BBC bashing and are loath to encourage it, maybe BBCStudios deserves it this time.
I mean the story has three key hooks papers will like: 1. Not letting people buy the set(s) means the BBC is turning down money. Not likely to look good with the over 75's licence issue still alive. 2. It's denying children the ability to buy their favourite programme 3. The ridiculous prices on eBay. Papers love things going up in value. If one or two papers pick this up and ask BBCStudios for answers, we may be closer to a re-release. And again, yes I know BBCStudios (previously BBCWW) are not the BBC as such, but its commercial arm, but the papers won't care. |

1. Company under estimates demand for product. 2. Being the incompetent public funded dinosaur BBC they either don't care... 3. ...or is it all part of their plan to inflate demand for the first editions? 4. Morons pay stupid money buying from third party sellers. Hardly earth shattering. Quote:

Releasing Series 12 10-12 months after its initial release in a clam-shell package isn't going to stop demand for the new sets. But it will enable those sworn off collecting because the first set is out of their reach from doing so when they know that and the other sets will be re-released. (and anecdotally I know of two such people). |

I think they are betting that they will make more money overall / ensure more future seasons' viability, by not reissuing past seasons (at least until all the seasons are out, so in 5 years' time or so).
