More classics is always good to see. It'll be the oldest film on the format, too. Unless Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind get in before it.

It'll be the 80th anniversary of both next year. Make it happen, Warners!

Exactly what I'm thinking. And they've been re-released how many times on DVD and BD? I'd be shocked if they didn't get UHD editions.

The last home video release was in 2016, so I could see them releasing this next fall with the new 4K transfer. Hopefully they donít wait until the 75th Anniversary. This movie is in my personal Top 10.

If they only release the 4k restoration online, then Paramount can... in the words of Psych's comedy duo... SUCK... IT!!!!

One of my faves too with GORGEOUS cinematography. And not simply a "Christmas" movie, when George has everything fall apart it ventures into some DARK territory and then the alternate reality scenes are like a Twilight Zone episode.

Frank Capra never intended for it to be viewed as a Christmas movie or one pushing spirituality (he had the Hays Code breathing down his neck and had to bend to the pressures of the day). It's a movie about the everyday "little guy" taking it to the greedy, corrupt "Man" as is the theme of most of his movies. The little guy is needed in this world. IAWL just happens to take place at Christmas... like Die Hard or Lethal Weapon.

Capra's views were so strong he was labeled a Communist sympathizer during the dark days of the Red Scare.

Oh yes. I just mean how it is always marketed and perceived by many who don't really know it. I always have tears at the end and it is simply because finally George sees his own worth by how important he is to others. Stewart's performance showing the vast range of emotion is still astounding to me.

It definitely did have a Twilight Zone kind of vibe to it. It's possible that Rod Serling was influenced by Capra since he tended to go down the same Morality Play and "greed/corruption in our institutions" road in many of his stories.

This is 4K on FandangoNow, which means it's on Vudu. I was surprised to find it.

Now that Christmas season 2019 will soon be upon us, what's the over/under on Paramount bothering to make a UHD 4K disc?
