Default fox codes

Am I right in thinking codes that come with Fox movies only redeem with Google Play, at least here in the Uk?

Most codes now go to google play. Murder on the Orient express for example However some titles were/will be UV.. Deadpool was UV/Flixster redeem. Codes also are only ever for HD licenses.

So you get a code with a Disc, right? Or buy one? Usually when you get a code from a 4k bluray it'll redeem to give you 4k streaming rights. However when you buy a Fox release title such as Deadpool you won't get 4k streaming rights when you redeem the code. This is since all Fox codes redeem as HD.

Yeah, they seem to have shifted to Google Play-only now. Older codes will still work on Flixster/Ultraviolet but the more recent titles - Goodbye Christopher Robin, Murder on the Orient Express and Kingsman: The Golden Circle - have just been Google Play.

Shame really, as they've got a LOT of great stuff coming to home media soon that I'd be more inclined to buy if they came with a UV code. They did work with iTunes for a little bit last year (War For The Planet of the Apes) but they quickly stopped that.

This is regarding UK releases, by the way. Not sure globally.

Those titles you mention being Google Play only are iTunes, Vudu, or Google Play, or Movies Anywhere. This is due to the US having Movies Anywhere, which is meant to replace UV.

Fox and Universal do not give UV licenses to titles released to home entertainment in 2018. In February the US codes dropped iTunes and are now only Vudu, Google Play or Movies Anywhere (Which includes iTunes, Vudu, Google Play, Amazon, FandangoNow).

I assume that why iTunes was dropped form UK codes. Also they would be upgraded to 4k if redeemed in iTunes. Seems they dropped UV for codes world wide in 2018. But pre 2018 releases should still have UV.

Do some films have later expiry dates then listed on the blu ray/leaflet, for example Fault In Our Stars is listed as expiring last December but I tested it and it still seems to redeem through Google Play

Yes, some codes continue to redeem a few years after the 'expiry' date, others won't - I think it depends on the movie company. I've recently tried a UV code from a Universal movie which has an Aug 2015 expiry date, and a rejection message says it's expired. More generally, they may also be winding things down pending the closure of Ultraviolet this summer.

As stated above, older codes from Universal are being expired. Because they want to convert to codes entirely in the MA system. It's hit and miss, some codes still work in Vudu, some in iTunes, some not at all.

Otherwise codes generally do not expire. Universal is a bit of an exception in that their codes are actually expired now (whereas all other studio's codes are generally still good way past expiration). For a while, Universal codes would expire, but be renewed after a week or so. But again, they want to convert to MA system only code, and so have let those older codes begin to expire.
