Along with Brannigan, Kino will also be releasing Legend of the Lost in December! Not much in terms of extras, but Brannigan does have a different commentary track compared to the TT release.

Don't we all. MGM really dropped the ball on this one. You can read the lengthy saga of woe over at Home Theater Forum .

Anyone here know anything about the AQ/PQ quality of the Japanese "Shootest"? The site only lists one owner and s/he hasn't answered an email. I'd hate to pay big bucks only to wind up with an upconverted DVD.

I wonder if we will ever see a 4K of The Searchers. Even as a Blu release from the early days of the format, The Searchers remains one of the best looking Blu-ray discs around. I would bet that a 4K release would be beautiful.

This is still on sale for $5! Movies like this are one of the best arguments for the benefits of Blu-ray. Classics like this restored to the point of being superior to the original release. Great stuff.

Kino has just announced "A Lady Takes A Chance" (1943), sourced from a new 4K scan.

Quote:
Manhattan working girl Jean Arthur bids goodbye to her three erstwhile suitors (Grant Withers, Hans Conried and Grady Sutton) to take a bus tour of the west. En route, she meets handsome rodeo-star John Wayne, whose bucking bronco hurls him directly into her lap. Stranded in a tank town with Wayne and his sidekick Charles Winninger, Arthur is introduced to the sort of frontier activities not covered by the tour books: gambling, boozing and brawling. Not surprisingly, Arthur wants to hightail it back to the East, but by now Wayne has fallen in love with her. Lady Takes a Chance was produced for RKO by Jean Arthur's then-husband, Frank Ross.

Wow, now that is big news. Every copy of this film that I've seen has been in pretty rugged shape. And even though I'm not a huge fan of this one, I will definitely get it, just to see a pristine presentation of it.

There's a ton of Wayne movies being released in Germany over the next couple of months, I thought they were all titles that have been released in America, but it looks like Jet Pilot is a first.

Shepherd of the Hills was released in France and is a quality transfer. Germany might be getting it as well. I assume we will see The Conqueror eventually.

Here's hoping they release it in it's original scope ratio. Principal photography was completed in 1949, but the film was held back from release till 1957. By releasing it in the 1:85 ratio, information at the top and bottom of screen went missing. And trust me, when you are watching Janet Leigh take off a sweater, you want all of the picture

Conqueror was released in Germany by Koch two years ago. It is a beautiful transfer, IMO.

Yeah, I was thinking of Reap The Wild Wind and The Spoilers from that Universal set. I think those are the only 2 without releases.

One of the great things about "Jet Pilot" is that the F-86 Sabre aircraft at that time was very new and there was controversy over whether the Air Force would actually allow release of the film when some of the "Brass" complained that it was "like giving the Russians the damn blu-prints"!! Hence, it's delayed release.
