The Hisense appreciation Thread

Hisense are not a household name for LCD/LED displays, but they offer high quality units for very affordable prices. They have a 3 year in-house replacement warranty, there customer service by phone and e-mail is informative and fast, and touch wood there TVs last over the long haul.

No I don't work for Hisense, I just thought they deserved a appreciation thread for their very good overall service.

For instance, the power button on my remote control was acting up and they sent me a brand new controller free of charge the very next day in the mail! I've never received anything that fast before.

My step mom bought a 32inch LED Hisense for the living room. All I will say is that if she likes it thats all that matters. But man I will tell you it some serious light bleed.

I bought a 32" LED for my son's room and I am thoroughly impressed with the picture. Don't care much for the remote, but the picture is great. 32" LED for $229 @ HHGregg

I've seen these at Walmart and was impressed by the price. How is the build quality? Are they reliable? Are they problematic? Have you had to return any to Walmart? Are they energy hogs? How long have you owned one?

The quality in general is great and touch wood I have had no problems with it. They don't take up too much power and I've owned it for about a year.

I work in the electronics department at Walmart, and I hardly ever see one of these comes back, and they usually sell as soon as we get them in. There's one we have now, 40" LED for $348. Not a Smart TV or anything, but for the price..

Hisense was the first big screen tv brand I owned. Back then it was all I needed in my living room. Sold it to my aunt and last time I saw it on it looked to blurry for my taste lol.

Hi , I'm newbie here and own a Hisense 50 LED Smart TV its pretty great bought it last year black Friday still working great watching movies on this thing is a pleasure. Its a step up from a Toshiba 720p

Anyway.

I have been away from the forum for a long while now, I kinda fell out of love with movies which I do from time to time, I always come crawling back though like I have done now. I just bought my first home (well a flat, but I love it all the same) and decided it was finally time to upgrade my some 32 inch Panasonic TV I'd been using for the last... God, what, four... five, years? Nothing really wrong with the TV, I heard these modern TVs degraded fast, but any problems with that TV were usually my own fault with me spending far too much time fiddling with the picture settings and making everything look like shit. About the only real fault with the panel was I would get these dirty blotches in the sky during bright scenes but I heard that was to do with the actual tech and not the TV.

The TV I ended up going for was the Hisense H65N6800UK as for whatever reason it had glowing reviews, seemingly all the 4K future proofing tech I would ever need, it was more than twice the size of my old TV but for some reason cost me about two hundred quid more than my old TV did four or five years ago, rather than the same downpayment I put down for my house like all the other 4K TVs I have seen from this size.

I played the panel lottery as we all do, the TV had a weird thing where if you look at it from the side it looks like strips of different light levels run through the TV, but it is unnoticeable head on. Feels like a shame to lose the 3D tech from my old TV but the massive leap in size more than balances out. Been running the TV on Night Cinema mode with no calibration and just turned off all the little extra stuff like noise reduction etc and it looks absolutely fantastic to me. Smooth, clear and no noticeable problems yet.

I only really have two downsides with the TV and neither is really a true downside. Firstly even with the PS4's upscaling tech, watching DVDs on a TV this big is usually a pretty rough experience. They look bad... really bad. Likewise unlike say a more expensive Samsung or Panasonic, rather than a central stand Hisense have decided to give it feet and put the feet effectively right on each corner of the TV. No idea how that actually works as nothing is supporting the TV in the centre but it also makes it a ****ing pain in the ass to find a stand for. I managed to find a 140 CM one on Amazon for 60 quid which I think I'll just be able to squeeze the feet onto the edges but the TV will loom over the side of the stand. Until that arrives and assuming I can actually build it (my DIY skills are zero) this is my current set up:



Also the TV looks way better in person than it does captured on my phone camera here. This is mostly for illustration of the fact I currently have it on the floor, haha.

How is the TV for playing games? I will soon be moving into my own place so I am definitely in the market for a new TV.

I was thinking of getting a Samsung 65" Q7F (I was impressed with what I saw in Currys) to play videogames and watch TV on day to day and then have a projector that would be dedicated to watching movies and some 'premium' TV such as Game of Thrones.

I did see a Hisense H65N570 in Argos for under £700 and was impressed with the picture quality and the price. I am leaning more towards getting a cheaper TV that can do 4K and HDR to play games on and put the money saved into a better projector.

Not sure if I should consider the U7A or U9A series instead? I keep telling myself to stop looking at TVs until I can move in and get a proper idea of my space - I think 75" is too big to play games on

Mine seems great. I am not a hardcore gamer or whatever so I have never really put a lot of thought into input lag, but apparently my TV has an incredibly low input lag and the TV comes with specified settings for gaming exclusively.

Okay that's good to know. I remember when the X360 first came out screen tearing and ghosting was a big problem but I am not seeing much mention of these on new TVs.

Will sit on my hands a little while longer until I can get into the new place and see what I can put in there but a Hisense TV is looking good at the moment!

I once again apologise for the potato quality, not sure why photos in my living room come out so bad, but again it is more for illustration. I just about managed to see my TV onto this 140 cm TV stand I got off of Amazon.

Sorry to bump the thread but I just wanted to know how other people feel about this.

By and large the telly I bought looks fantastic. The issues inherent moreso with the tech and less with the telly but still no less problematic meant that during the night I have to really crush the blacks to avoid the TV becoming a sea of washed greys and I have had to make numerous tweaks to also hide the light uniformity issues and the odd red tinge the TV has.

Because I was constantly tweaking the TV all the time, I researched the best calibrator in my area and reached out to them to see if they could make me four calibrated settings. One for day, one for night, one for gaming and one for HDR.

However after going away with several weeks to look into this as he hadn't calibrated one of these before (not a good sign from the off) he said that his researched gleamed that it wasn't a job he wanted. That the tv is at its most accurate at the out of the box settings. I mean that sounds weird anyway because I have had so many little niggling problems but isn't every TV panel unique out of the box with its own unique flaws and strengths within the parameter of the TV itself?

He also said that the hdr is not very good on my TV so he won't be able to add anything by adjusting anything?

So what, am I supposed to just reset all my little tweaks I have made back to the default settings again?

Should I contact another calibrator? There are others in my area but they are only THX certified and not as well regarded.

My wife, her brothers, and I bought their parents a 65 inch (can’t remember the exact model) as a gift, and they love it. I adjusted the settings a bit, but mostly turned off the usuals (noise, motion, etc). It’s a big step up from their 43 inch Wally World tv. One thing that did impress me was the sound. Wouldn’t trade it for my 5.1, but it was pretty damn loud for being tv speakers. They never turn it up above 10 or so and hear it fine.

Colors look good and it’s pretty sharp. They’re very happy with it. Plus, being from Costco, it came with a free extended warranty. Being a 65 inch 4K smart tv for $800 for people that don’t care if it’s top, mid or low tier......it’s a pretty, damn good tv.

Oh of interest, what have you adjusted?

I have made all my tweaks on the "Cinema Night" mode.

Contrast is at 38. Brightness and colour saturation at 50. Backlight at 19. Aspect ratio direct. I've basically turned everything off that tinkers with the picture other than Local Dimming which I left on as it improves the black levels a whole lot. Gamma at the ITU.1886 thing (no idea what this is, but it provides the best blacks).

I've also made a lot of tweaks to the colours to try and offset the redness of the picture. I put the colour temperature on cool. In the Red setting I've minused the hue by three and the saturation by seven and the same on Magenta.

I have white balance at 2 point, as I have no clue what 10 point is. Set to auto as native is far too red. I've minused eight off of the red gain and one off of blue and green.

Still not perfect, on more cartoony things like Overwatch everything has the same shade as a raw, smacked, bottom but for movies and so on this does seem to offset a lot of the problems.

The only thing i noticed was the 'Reds' seemed very grainy so i went into Colour tuner and turned the red down to -5 and it looks a lot better. i think these Tvs can look great but they need a lot of colour adjustments to get a bettre picture especially the colour Red for some reason.
