Default Just got a Wii .... What did I miss?

HI,

I got a Wii at a garage sale today for $10 ... it works. It has 4 controllers and steering wheels ... It came with Wii Sports and Wii play.

Anyways, I've not had a Wii before... I've had PS3 since launch day. And I have a DreamCast too.

I just figured the kids always like Wii...

My impression is everyone who has one is tired of it and they either threw it away or packed it in storage.

I went to look for mario kart on gamestop's website and I'm not sure they still sell any Wii stuff....

Brian,

The Wii is my favorite system, for reasons that are fairly "childish." I love the motion and I think the games are geared towards the family.

Wii is available on Gamestop, but I would caution, their prices are high:

http://www.gamestop.com/browse?nav=1...rio+kart,28zu0.

I'd look on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trks...at=0&_from=R40

And I'd say no more than $20 for the game.

Other games I love that kids might enjoy:
Epic Mickey ( I just adore this game. Your kids would need help, but it's really well done. The second is not as well done).
Paper Mario / Super Mario Galaxy
Any of the Mario Olympic Games

I too have a Wii but I took it to my girlfriend's house so her kids, her and I play guessing and multiple choice games on it after dinner. Some of our favourites are Family Fued, Price is Right, Jeopardy, Scene It and Smarty Pants. I went to Gamestop to search for games but Amazon is way better when it comes to prices and selection. You might also want to get Namco Museum Remix and Megamix which have a total of 38 games total on two discs. Good luck.

click on the link and compare prices with Gamestop ($5 for a new game or $3 for it used) plus shipping but you can combine several games from one seller to save on shipping.

I played some Wii play... It's fun.

Since it came with 4 of those original Nintendo steering wheels, I will seek Mario Kart and after that I will just be patient and find my games at garage sales and second hand stores.

I love the classic characters esp Zelda/Link Mario/Kong ... So, In time I will pick up great games.

Someone (who already had a Will I guess) bought all the games at that garage sale for $1 each... (most like Mario Kart was there... given all those steering wheels.)... In time I'll get games for it.

Love the fact it came with 4 controllers and a few of the secondary controllers and the steering wheels. It came with jackets for the controllers but I don't think I'll use those...

Thanks,

Brian

Plot thickins....

I got it online and it asked if I wanted to update the FW and then told me the Wii had modifications...

So,... I didn't update the FW....

Bummer.... wonder how I go about finding out which modifications were done...

Why not update? It's never anything radical. Consoles need updating because of changes in technology.

One note on the steering wheels -- they're kind of imprecise. Hard care Mario Kart players tend to use the nunchuks, in my experience.

You'll need the nunchuk controller for many of the good games -- did you get at least one with the system?

This means somebody added custom firmware to get around some of the protocols of the Wii.

To answer your question, you missed everything!

Get the 1st party games, they are great. Both Zeldas & Mario Galaxy games for starters + Mario Kart, Brawl is good too.

There is a line of games I think they are called gold or something which cost $20 which are basically the best games of the console.

The Wii is a great console with good games, is just filled w a bunch of crapware in between the gold ones.

Check Toys R US they tend to have some good deals on cheaper games and wii games don't cost too much now.

originally i had planned to get a Wii but decided against it and decided to take a pass on having weighed out the pros and cons of everything and figured I was better off just sticking with my PS3.

Sin and Punishment: Star Successor
Sin and Punishment (Virtual Console)
Excitebots: Trick Racing
*Xenoblade Chronicles
Super Paper Mario
Marble Mania: Kororinpa 2
*Ju-On: The Grudge (guilty pleasure)
Metroid Prime Trilogy
*Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Castle of Shikigami III
Epic Mickey
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Kirby's Epic Yarn

....probably a lot of others. Those are the best games I can think of off the top of my head.

The asterisk denotes games that are exorbitantly-priced nowadays, so tread lightly on those But luckily in the case of Metroid Prime: Trilogy, if you are interested in only the third game, you can find that one for... still a little expensive, but much less pricey than the trilogy.

The first bolded one, Donkey Kong Country Returns, is my all-time favorite Wii game, and among my favorite games of all-time. Absolutely get that.

The second bolded one is a niche game, much in the same vein as Castle of Shikigami III.. but if you like that type of shooter, it's absolutely worth it, too!

Thanks for all the replies.

My kids love Mario Kart and Sonic All Stars Racing.

And Super Smash Bros, and Zelda.

We play Super Mario Bros together but we all get angry in minutes.

(Seems Sonic All Stars Racing got kind of bad reviews. I guess because it was such a copy of Mario Kart but it's a good game of it's own and my kids like it better than Mario Kart. The Madagascar Kart game is horrible ... ha ha.)

I just bought a jail broken Wii the other day with an external hard drive including around 336 games. Been going through all of them trying to find the good games. So far my two favorites are:

NINJA REFLEX
SPORTS RESORT: ARCHERY

Does anyone recommend the most fun 4-6 player game for 8 year olds?

Longtime Nintendo fan here. I've had the NES, SNES, N64, and Gamecube for years. After having them packed away for quite some time (years) I recently dug them out and started playing them again. I never got a Wii when it was released in 2006, so just recently, I bought one on eBay. Hey, it only took me 8-9 years. Haha!

Anyway, I currently only have six Wii games.

Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy 2
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Donkey Kong Country Returns
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

I think my next purchase will be Mario Kart Wii.

I guess Super Mario Galaxy 3 is a lost cause?

I've missed out on so much too. I really like all of the Zelda series games, have a lot of catching up to do on titles.

Well before this console slips away into extreme prices, I decided to take the plunge. I had an original white Wii but lost interest in it right before it started to get better games. The list below I thought warranted buying new.

Any game suggestions welcome!

Especially any 1st party games you think are must haves!!

I've seen a ton of used games around awhile ago & can't remember recent encounters of lots of used Wii games for sale. hmm..

Bought,

Black Wii Console
Black Wii Classic Controller Pro
Black Wii Nunchuk
Fosmon Wii Component A/V Cable

Games, (First Releases)

Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy 2
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Metroid Prime Trilogy - Collector's Edition
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Donkey Kong Country Returns

Wait, don't you own a Wii U?
Wii U is 100% backward compatible with Wii, so I don't understand why you bought a Wii.

There are tons of hidden gems on Wii.

For example
- a boy and his blob
- a shadow's tale
- Another Code R (Europe+JP only)
- Battalion Wars 2 (first party)
- Beat the Beat: Rhythm Paradise (first party)
- Bit.Trip Complete
- Boom Blox / Boom Blox Party
- Bully (if you haven't played it yet on other consoles)
- de Blob 1 + 2 (first one was Wii exclusive and imo better than the second one)
- Dead Space: Extraction
- Deadly Creatures
- Disaster: Day Of Crisis (first party, Europe+JP only)
- Endless Ocean 1 + 2
- Fragile Dreams
- Ghostbusters (not the same game as on PS3+360, this went with comic style graphics, well made)
- Go Vacation
- GoldenEye 007
- Indiana Jones and the Fate Of Atlantis (comes in a case called Indiana Jones and Staff of Kings)
- Kirby Epic Yarn
- Klonoa (remake, exclusive to Wii)
- Kororinpa 1+2
- Little King's Story
- Metal Slug Anthology
- Munchables (somewhat like Katamari)
- New Play Control Pikmin 1+2 (first party)
- No More Heroes 1+2
- Okami
- Pandora's Tower
- Prince Of Persia: Forgotten Sands (different game than on PS3+360, actually a really well made and great game with lots of content)
- Project Zero 2 (EU+JP only)
- Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition
- Resident Evil REmake (classic survival horror)
- Resident Evil 0 (classic survival horror)
- Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles (railshooter)
- Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles (railshooter)
- Scarface World is yours
- Silent Hill: Shattered Memories
- Sin and Punishment 2
- Super Paper Mario (first party)
- The Last Story ("first" party, by creator of Final Fantasy)
- Wario Land: Shake Dimension (first party)
- WarioWare: Smooth Moves (first party)
- Wii Sports Resort (first party)
- Xenoblade Chronicles (first party, really expensive though, available for quite cheap on Wii U eShop, but not available in US eShop yet)
- Zack & Wiki

You can soft-mod the Wii and also Wii inside Wii U and then play those EU+JP games that way.

Yep, but wanted the real deal & in black!

I'll also only support physical Wii games unlike what I've done with Wii U & VC.

Thanks for the game recommendations. A lot of titles there I never heard of.
