Although it's been said by all professional TV reviewers Consumer Reports findings are very close to our 2016 TV Shootout Evaluation Event's attendees voting results.
Here's the link to CR's article that was just released. Hope to see many BD.com members and visitors at our July 2017 TV Shootout Evaluation event. |

A few scenes on the OLED look much darker, especially the night time scene where a lot of the detail is crushed by the blacks. I know these are just pics but I can't even see the fence in that pic and the building outline isn't visible either. I mean all you see are a bunch of lights. If that's the price to get better blacks then I'll pass.
Also funny they penalized Sony for their ignorance on not reading the manual on setting up HDR properly. I had thought they were grading PQ performance in isolation but then at the end they throw that in. Weird. Last edited by bruceames; 12-30-2016 at 02:19 AM. |

Which is why we demonstrate and vote on how the TVs perform out of the box (in their best mode) for day and night viewing and then high and low ambient light viewing post calibration. Once the TVs are properly set-up they do not crush or clip any details.

Thanks and hope you can join us this year. We get CA folks attending every year as well as the rest of the country and some from EU, South America, Canada and Asia.
I agree and see the same things you do, but we can't tell if it's how the camera, printing and how the image quality is altered through the Internet and our monitors. I'm also surprised the Z9D did not finish 2nd and best in high ambient light viewing. |
