Post Sony's X940E, X930E and the new X900E series

I just launched a few new pages with information on Sony's new UHD/HDR TVs. Sony's X900E is a new series this year, featuring; Full array/local dimming, X1 processor and sizes from 49" - 75" class. The X940E will be available in the 75" class and boosts Dolby Vision, HLG, Smart voice search application and zero clearance articulating wall mount option.

We're scheduled for Sony's very first allotment the end of February and we'll be testing and evaluating these new displays.

so the Full array 900E is coming to the USA? Bravo to Sony for expanding their lineup!

by the way Robert, I notice you have the 900E as X1 extreme, but other info says it uses the regular X1, with a few advancements over last years normal X1. the AVforums coverage of the sony presser last week showed this information. Do you have 100% confirmation?

EDIT: looking at the pictures sony provided you of the X1 thumbnail, they are different for the 900e and 940e. they both say xtreme under the thumbnail, but the actual text on the thumbnail is different for each. the 900E says X1 processor and the 940E says X1 Extreme.

Another question, is the 900E an IPS panel or VA?

My notes from Sony's private meeting and the graphical features list says the X900E series has the X1 processor. I'll double check today and correct if necessary.

Sony will not say if the panel is IPS or VA. The 900E, 930E and 940E series are arriving over the next 2 - 3 weeks and report my findings. Stay tuned for updates.

You're hearing it first here.

Expected Sony 2017 premium TV delivery update:

- 55" and 65" X900E week of 2/13.

- 55" and 65" X930E week of 2/20.

- 75" X900E and 75" X940E week of 2/27

All other X800E, 43" X850E and the 49" X900E series launch mid to late spring.

Overall an earlier launch than expected from Sony and the new X900E FALD series added to the line-up.

I wonder how the 75X940E holds up to its predecessor, the 75X940D?

Sorry for my error, the X900E has Sony's new 2017 X1 video processor.

Thanks Ray, I corrected my post. Not sure what to expect, but I've been told the X1 processor in the X900E TV series is upgraded for 2017. My expectations are high for this beautiful looking FALD TV.

Here's the .pdf spec sheets for some of Sony's 2017 TVs:

- XBR-75X850E

- XBR-75X900E

- XBR-65X900E

- XBR-55X900E

- XBR-49X900E

- XBR-75X940E

And my personal favorite, Sony's new short throw projector, VPL-VZ1000ES.

Sony and LG are launching their 2017 TV early to select authorized dealers earlier than usual. So we should see users posting later this week.

I'll have the few missing Sony 2017 TV .pdf spec sheets up later tonight.

any idea what the speed of the Ethernet is? I'm hoping they went gigabit, but, I doubt it. the spec's only say they have a port.

Here's .pdf spec sheets on the Z9D series, including one technical document that explains how the local dimming LED-by-LED (not groups of LEDs in zones) and the X1 Extreme video processor works.

- XBR-65Z9D

- XBR-75Z9D

- XBR-100Z9D

- Z9D series technical specs explained

Here's TechRadar's very good and accurate review on Sony's 2017 X900E UHD TV series.

The 900E actually performs better than the 940D and with no visible smearing.

so will dolby vision/hlg be available in the future on the 900e or is that specific to the 940e?... I can get a good deal locally on a 65" 900e and I might jump on it so I can start watching my 4k movies and wait for oled prices to fall

From what I am told yes to HLG, but unlikely for Dolby Vision on the X900E. The X940E will support Dolby Vision HDR.

930e looks nice on full screen stuff but from what I have seen the letterbox bars have quite a bit of blooming, I could not deal with that and it would absolutely annoy me since nearly all of my viewing is for movies (not a gamer)... the 940e looks like a real nice set, I haven't seen one in person yet but from owner reviews they seem to be pretty solid and I have seen a few pics that looked outstanding... the price on them is pretty high right now but that is definitely one I am considering alongside a 65" c7/a1e and I will probably pass on the 900e right now but for the price it is rather tempting... the 10" larger screen size on the 940e definitely helps when compared to the oleds I'm looking at... z9d's look outstanding as well when I looked at them in store... fact is there are quite a few good sets out there to choose from, decisions decisions

Has there been any talk of bringing Dolby Vision to the x900e after all the positive reviews? I'm sure it isn't going to happen, but I gotta hope!

I highly doubt it since it doesn't have the x1 extreme chip... if it had dolby vision I would probably get one
