Hello all,
I have a long history with the film that I won't bore you with here, but suffice it to say that I love the Akira anime. With the upcoming UHD 4k release, the hype is all too real for me, and made me think that it's finally time to buy the manga and give it a read. The local Barnes & Noble only had volume 1 in stock, so I went ahead and picked that up in store. I also placed an order on RightStuf for the other 5 volumes. As I haven't read this before, I am really excited to read this manga series. Sadly, I am seriously crushed that I was unable to get the Akira 35th Anniversary Box Set. It's absolutely gorgeous, but I kept waiting for a price drop, then it suddenly dried up completely in that past few days. After moping around, I decided to just go ahead and pick up the regular editions, because I REALLY want to read through all of this before the 4k disc hits here in the USA. To say that I'm excited is an understatement! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Poke around your local thrift store and you might find other manga releases for dirt cheap. Barnes & Noble also occasionally has manga and comics and graphic novels in the clearance section. Hopefully, we can get a proper colorized release of Akira for the next anniversary.

Thanks for the tip!
![]() A bit of good luck happened in this Akira manga adventure. I received my regular editions of the Akira manga (vols. 2-6) and am reading through them. A few days ago, I saw that Amazon had a restock on the 35th Anniversary box set, so I broke down and ordered it as well. It's supposed to get here Friday. While I'm excited/happy that I was able to snag the box set, I do feel a bit bummed that I will now have purchased all of the Akira volumes twice, especially in such a short time span. ![]() Oh well...I am hoping my box set arrives in mint condition from AMZ, and I will just leave it sealed as a collector's/conversation piece, and keep my other set to read through. |
