When you say you wouldn't mind owning an 82 inch HDTV but it would need to be a "projector," do you mean a REAR pro TV set, or a FRONT PROJECTOR setup? If you meant front projection, that's not an actual TV...but a Panasonic/Pioneer plasma at that size would probably look stunning...
Did I hit a nerve? I forgot to mention that I've only seen these at Best Buy and Bjorn's and they're usually not setup properly for HD channels and blu-ray. I've never these tvs in blu-ray or in HD so I've misjudged them. Where would you rank Mitsubishi tvs among the other top brands?

No, you didn't hit a nerve, at all...I just was asking what you meant with regard to "projector"...whether you meant front or rear, the rear being an HDTV...

Just for clarification...

What about film...how did it look on that screen? Did you view any films?

I think I recall they had all those sizes on the home shopping channel -- I didn't remember they went up to 82...but I remember them carrying three giant sizes like that...

Good luck with it if you get it; I don't think anyone else makes a television that large for public purchase, do they? I.e. LCD, plasma...

Mitsu is the only one making such a large set, yes?
I watched about 15 min of Avatar, the big attack scene with the gunships.

Hey nez --

Aren't you the one that had that 60" SXRD in your living room with the white colored entertainment center?

Cool -- is it still doing well? Same lamp?

How is your bigger screen working out in the "theater" room you put it in with the multiple rows of seats? Normally, a room like that gets a front projection system, that's why I asked...

Funny and ironic thing -- we JUST blew our first lamp last night during "The Town" Blu-ray...I'm gonna start a thread about that...

How long have you been running your SXRD?

I just saw that, Star...wow...

Incredible.

I wonder why Sony and others don't get into this massive screen arena...

you can get the 73 for around $1800 now. I think the 82 is still about $2500-$2900

I just picked up a new Mits WD-82738 this past Saturday for only $2,200. It came with a $120 stand and an additional 2yr extended warranty.

Having watched a Mits 73" 1080i diamond for the past 7 years...this picture is simply phenomenal. This is my 3rd Mits over the last 15 years....60", then 73" Diamond now the 82".

I grew up going to the movies for free as my Dad was the Theater Manager. I really like the big screen...now I can say that I have one!

My little brother was so impressed with it, that he unplugged his Mits 55" Rear projection and bought the Mits WD-73736 the next day.

Both have awesome pix!

Wow...

Awesome prices for these huge sets being thrown around...I am truly jealous and wish I had some extra income sitting around for one of these...

My parents had a huge, floor-sitting DLP Mitsubishi Diamond that just crapped out recently -- a 55" that was "HD Ready" -- and I would go to this brand for a huge screen like we're discussing, as they seem to do these the best and without much competition.

Just picked up a 73" 838, the mitsu starter pack with 2 glasses and IR emitter, as well as the Samsung starter pack with 2 more glasses and Monsters vs Aliens 3D. Set arrives Monday, and new, lower, Sanus stand arrives next week. Should be watching 3D by next weekend
