I would have been ecstatic months ago, but I've grown accustomed to the position numbers and progress bar. I used to hate it so much that id put the cursor over any word just to cover it up lol.

My favorite feature is by far the dictionary integration. Its a dream come true to have seamless access to it as you're reading.

I so smart now

I'm way more accustomed to the progress bar. I like knowing how much longer I have before the book is over. Lets me know when to get the next one downloaded.

I was just wondering, if you have bought a book, will kindle notify you if you try to buy it again?

I think so, but only if it's the same publisher and version.

I am a very avid reader and I would love to get a an e-reader but I'm stuck between a Kindle and a Nook Color. Is there anyone who owns both that can give some insight?

I don't have the NC, but they aren't really that similar of devices. I know I'm biased to the kindle, but after all of my research into the different devices I haven't looked back.

The NC uses a backlit LCD screen so it will be like reading off a computer screen, whereas the kindle uses e-ink which is more paper like. I'd recommend going to Best Buy and taking a look at the different displays and playing around with them.

One of the other big differences is battery life. The NC advertises up to 8 hours of life, from personal use I can read 5+ full length novels on one charge with my kindle.

If you plan to read for extended periods of time the kindle weighs in at 8.5 ounces, while the NC is 15.8 ounces. It might not seem like a lot but that extra weight can start to get annoying. I used to have a really nice heavy duty leather cover for my kindle, but if I was reading for a couple of hours it started to get uncomfortable and I would have to take the cover off.

Thank you for the input. I guess I will have to make a trip to Best Buy to compare but it sounds like it may be the Kindle that wins out.

It all depends on what you're looking to do with the device (reading or running apps, or both). The nook color is meant to bridge the gap between e-readers and tablets. As mrf mentioned, since the nc is backlit, you won't be able to read it well in sunlight.

Personally, I went with the Kindle because I walk at work every day during lunch, and I now read at the same time. Living in Florida, if I had a nook Color, I wouldn't be able to read on my walks.

A friend of mine had the nook (not the color) and lost it, and I pushed him to replace it with the Kindle, and he's not looked back. The usability for me (and him too) is just so much better in a Kindle (the in-book lookup, highlighting and Collections are much simpler and easier to access in a Kindle).

But, try them out for yourself at Best Buy and see.

I'm an avid reader as well and was a little hesitant about what the reading experience would be like. I've had mine for a little more than a month now and can say that I love the kindle more and more every time I read from it.

I hadn't finished a book in over a year because of school and burned through two good sized novels in just a few weeks (Towers of Midnight and The Quantum Thief).

I purchased one a little over a week ago and I really enjoy the device. My only beef is that I wish there were Kindle editions that matched the books I buy. I just bought two physical books (Connecticut Yankee and Candide) for an honors satire course and I wish I had exact Kindle editions for them.

Yes, it notifies you if you try to buy a book you have already bought. A couple weeks ago I bought a book at an airport with spotty Wi-Fi and couldn't find the book. I figured the Wi-Fi went out before the book had downloaded but got a message that the book had already been purchased and gave me directions to find the book.

Amazon is releasing a $114 version of the Kindle that will come with special offers and sponsored screensavers. The offers are on the bottom of the home page and will not affect reading. The launch sponsors are Olay, Buick, Chase, and Visa. The $139 and $189 versions of the Kindle will still be available without sponsors.

I think it's a great idea, and I think it's the next step to giving away kindles to Prime members.

I wouldn't pay for the ad supported model, but as long as they keep the normal ones I don't see it being a bad thing.

I would agree, but I hope this doesn't set a precedent to others.

I love my ad-free wireless K3!

I wish the Kindle app turned pages a pretty as Google Books or iBooks.

I'll be picking up a Kindle soon though, can't read my Xoom in daylight.

Smile I'm happy with the app.

I'm perfectly happy just using the Kindle app. I downloaded about 15 free books that I'm going to put on my iPad.

Always been curious to try out this Kindle thing. Just snagged a 3G + WiFi model with some of my Amazon credit. I'm really hoping it makes reading more enjoyable for me. I love the idea of reading, but in practice, I read very slowly and it gets a bit laborious, whereas I never seem to mind reading all sorts of materials on the internet (like this forum), so I'm hoping it will be worth the investment. I tried to find articles on how Kindle affects reading practices in people who otherwise don't like to read, but there doesn't seem to be any information available...

I haven't purchased any accessories yet, because I might experience buyer's remorse in couple of days.

Before I got my Kindle in December I hadn't read a book since 2007. Since I got my Kindle I've read 5 books and read every night for around 30 minutes before bed.

I don't know about you, but I think it's starting to become a rising trend once again where I hear my coworkers talk about reading their Kindle's before hitting the sack. I still use the TV to fall asleep.
