Mine would be James Clavell's Shogun. I read it at least 5 times in 2 languages. If you haven't, I strongly suggest you do. It is truly an unputdownable read!

I would have to say, as of now, The Mysterious Island by Jules Verne. After 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea I downloaded this to my kindle free from Amazon and was so enthralled from start to finish.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (complete) would have to be second.

The Bartimaeous Trilogy by Jonathon Stroud
Revenge of the Sith by Matthew Stover (Yup)
The Quickening Trilogy by Fiona McKintosh

and my current favorite: A Song of Fire and Ice by George R.R. Martin (a Game of Thrones and a Storm of Swords to be specific)

I'd have to go with The Hobbit/LOTR. I read them several times and loved them every time.

"Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" by Phillip K Dick. Read it in three days, and it was awesome! It was made into a decent movie too.

Some runner ups would be:

"The Stand" by Stephen King
"The Hobbit" by JRR Tolkein
"Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card
"Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck

...and probably some others...

There's something I really enjoy about Hunter Thompson's writing style. I enjoy his sense of humor and his turn of phrase.

Chariots of the Gods by Erich von Daniken (Kindle ebook available for $6.99 from amazon).

It's about aliens that visited Earth centuries -- if not millennia -- ago.

I believe this book served as the inspiration for the History Channel series, Ancient Aliens.

Thought provoking stuff.

My favorite book is Hackers: Heroes of the Computer Revolution by Steven Levy. It is a great history lesson (non-fiction book) about the "original" hacker mentality. Not like the wannabe hackers of today, aka script kiddies, who do it for malicious reasons (black hatters) in many cases.

I also love true crime books. My favorite author is probably John Douglas. He is a former FBI profiler. I like the psychological approach he takes with a lot of his books. He likes to write in the mind set of the criminal and the crime they did.

Red Mars/ Blue Mars/ Green Mars Trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson. Simply the most detailed, plausible, and in depth look at our not too distant future. Pure science fiction, based in the realm of possibility.

That’s what jumped into my thoughts after reading the title of this thread.
