They supposedly want to get this into homes by 2016-2020, according to Wikipedia (which I'll take with a grain of salt if anybody can tell me differently). But to me, this also indicates a new non-Blu technology (unless they manage to make a several-TB Blu-ray disc somehow). It'd be a whole new thing to buy into again, and from what other people have displayed online, it's probably not going to make a difference for 99% of people who aren't sitting 1.5 feet away from a computer monitor.
So why do this? That's what confuses me. I mean, I'm all for better technology, but we have a long way to go before LED technology sorts out some of its major kinks and a very long way to go before 3D becomes even a feasible option for the majority of consumers imo. What's with the electronic companies' rushes to get new tech out to us so quickly? |

I would rather not buy a new high-end TV every 5-10 years though - I just got into Blu-ray last year after waiting for prices to go down.
Maybe it will make a difference for people with projection setups, which I plan on installing in my first house (I'm only 20 years old, btw). But I still doubt the human eye will see a ton of perceivable difference. Then again, people said that sort of thing about 1080P too way back in the day, so who knows? |

I wouldn't mind seeing UHD installed into cinemas as i think it'll look breathtaking and could be the future in cinema. It's better than seeing a light projected onto a wall. I know it's traditional and all, but the quality looks better on my tv than it does in the cinema, so to see a big UHD tv in the cinema would be EPIC!

(BTW an 8k "retina display" would be about 27"; I could certainly see myself watching movies at my desk on a screen that size. ![]() |

Thanks for posting this very nice price drop on UHD TVs. One correction is the articles have incorrect prices for Samsung's 55" UN55F900, which is now actually $4,499 and the 65" UN65F9000 is now $5,999.
Very deep price cuts, but not quite as low as the articles say. -Robert |
