The new 8 set will also save some shelf space. Although, boy... the cover is terrible. It looks like Jason has the build of a kid with a large head. His machete also looks too small. Oh, well.

I just did the same thing. Sold my tin and bought the new collection set for $28. I printed custom vhs style covers for them. I was able to insert two covers folded in either side of the discsox sleeve for the double features. I'm in the process of switching all of my collections to discsox sleeves and printing covers for each movie. They take up less space, aren't fragile, and have individual art. It's awesome! This pic is in my black cases, before I transferred them to the sleeves.

You don't need a hosting site, you can upload pics directly from your phone by clicking on the Attachments icon (the little paperclip icon).

I'm not sure if everyone knows this, but Harry Manfredini released the soundtracks to the F13 movies he scored on his Band Camp page. And Fred Mollin has the soundtrack for JTM on his Band Camp page.

The soundtracks for Part VI and VIII feature He's Back (The Man Behind the Mask) and Darkest Side of the Night.

Outside of Waxwork's vinyls, I believe this is the only way to official get the F13 scores.

La-La Land Records has 1-5... I'm pretty sure VI is on its way.

IMO the worst thing about it is Tommy.. I just find the actor beyond annoying. There are some decent kills and humor is pretty solid.. ha, especially the scene you mentioned! The pacing really hurts it.. it just feels like it drags on. That being said, it's still better than anything from Part 8 on.
It's really not that they were trying something different. It's a Friday the 13th film, first and foremost, it had Jason, the entire formula is there. If not for the 10 second reveal at the very end of the movie that it wasn't actually Jason. Nobody would have anything bad to say. They could have took that tiny tiny part out right before release and everything would have been fine. Now Fth13 part 9 ... that was drastic change.

I wonder why the soundtrack version of “Sail Away Tiny Sparrow” is slower than the version heard in the film. According to various sources it was sung by a singer named Angela Rotella but on the soundtrack it’s slower and sounds like a man singing.

Are you able to see the spine? I love this idea but am worried I would not find the movie afterwards.

The spines aren’t really visible. You can look at them at an angle and sorta see them. I use this site’s app to view my movies and pick one out most of the time anyways so it’s a small trade off. They take up so little space and feel a lot higher quality than the plastic cases, plus you keep every bit of packaging minus the plastic case. I like them! The cost of converting my large collection is high, but the benefits outweigh the cost in my situation.

I keep my collection in alphabetic order so finding a movie is pretty easy even without the spines facing out.

I’m rewatching in order 1-8.

While I’ve always loved 1 and 2...I just finished 3 and for some reason I’ve really felt myself enjoying it much more than I had previously. Not sure why. I think it’s a lot of the characters...they’re really likable. Of course, it’s also cool that Jason gets his hockey mask in this one. He gets it exactly 1 hour into the film, which I thought was kinda planned well.

I agree. Personally, I think it’s much better than 4 because the characters have distinctive personalities and I like the campiness of the film. In 4 the characters are boring and that campy feeling is gone, so the first hour is a chore to get though (in my opinion).

I love 3! I have a personal affinity for all of them, yes all of them. But when I rewatch I find myself liking 3 more and more!

I love The Final Chapter for the exact reason some don't like it. It's dark and foreboding, with very little campiness. It's the one that's raw and brutal, with atmosphere to boot and the best Jason, IMO. I wasn't bored by the characters. This was the entry that played like an 80's teen film dropped into Friday the 13th (It helped to have Crispin Glover, Lawrence Monoson and Judie Aronson, who were frequently in those other teen films), and that made it even more fun for me. Manfredini's music is top notch. To me, it's the perfect Friday film.

That said, I can (and do) love the other ones for various reasons, even the ones I consider to be the worst of them all, Jason X and FvsJ. I find no guilt in loving these films, because in the pantheon of horror films, there are FAR worse films that are true campy silliness.

Same!

I actually like Jason takes Manhattan quite a bit haha.

Jason Goes to Hell is my least watched Friday. It's so ****ing bad. Though, I haven't watched it in 15 years or so.

I wonder if Shout or anyone similar has tried licensing the series and getting everything together for an amazing special collection. Including a real 3D version of part 3.

I can't believe Jaws 3-D got one, but not Friday the 13th part 3.

I don’t need the Friday films to be campy; it’s just that, to me, the series overall is poorly written and clearly not meant to be taken seriously, so when there’s humor or campiness it makes it easier to sit through. When I watched The Final Chapter last year I felt like the movie was always about to turn into a porno. All the ridiculous dialogue and constant talk about sex and skinny dipping made it feel like that. It didn’t seem like a real movie to me. Even though Part 5 has about the same level of nudity, it was more entertaining because of the humor and the characters’ personalities. I’ll give Part 4 another watch to see if my opinion changes because how you described it sounds appealing to me.

As for the worst in the series, I’d have to give that honor to Jason Goes to Hell and Jason X. It’s amazing how terrible those films are. I’ll never watch them again.

The other day I watched the remake for the first time since seeing it in theaters, and I see why it didn’t do well. It’s just the same sh*t with nothing new added. There were parts I thought were okay but it’s very forgettable. If they ever want to reboot the series again they better do something really original and different; otherwise it’ll just be the same as the remake and not do well at the box office. I wonder if it’s possible to make a Friday film that clicks with audiences the way the new Halloween film did.

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter has always been my favourite. The first time I saw it, I knew this instalment was going to be special.
Even the sh*tty edits to the CIC videotape didn't hurt my viewing pleasure too much. A classic!

It's funny because I went through a period where I really disliked part 3. I liked it a lot when I was a kid when I first saw it, then I kind of fell out of love with it because I felt that it was utterly ridiculous and didn't fit the tone of the films that came before or The Final Chapter that came after it. I still do feel this way to a certain extent.

However, I've come to appreciate the humor in the series a lot more since then and the films work so much better than a vast majority of the Halloween films simply because of that fact. They're all quite ridiculous, but they're aware of how stupid they are and they often play to that advantage and it saves the series in the end.

There's also a really good commentary for part 3 (albeit rather poorly recorded) with the cast that was included in the Crystal Lake to Manhattan DVD boxset. It was never carried over to any subsequent release of part 3 so it's still exclusive to that collection. If you haven't heard it, it's definitely worth tracking down as it's one of the best commentaries for any film in the series and is a lot of fun to listen to.

Part 3 has always been one of my favourites, simply because of the humour. Whether it's intentional or unintentional, or both, I don't know, but of course the 3D stuff adds to it. It reminds me of the old Doctor Tongue sketches on TV where they would make jokes about the blatant attempts to make use of the 3D effects, so the goofy stuff like the eyeball popping out, etc. adds to the comedy value.
