By any chance, does anybody know if the bluray or dvd set includes any Instawatch copies with the purchase of a set?

I don't know if this belongs here or in that "ridiculous things you do as a blu-ray collector" thread but after posting frequently about how little regard I hold for Jason Goes To Hell and Jason X, I decided all of a sudden that I really wished I had them on blu-ray. If I can have all the Chucky, Elm Street and Halloween films even though I don't like those franchises near as much, I should have all these. So I scoured the net and found an Austrian website where I got the double-feature for $44 CDN shipped. A bit more than those films really deserve but I figured even if Shout eventually released them, I'd probably be looking at $30 CDN each for them so I figured what the hell and pulled the trigger. It's been a looong time since I've had a marathon of all 12 films.

My 1-8 rewatch continues, with Part 5.

This has definitely never been one of my favorites. And rewatching it again hasn’t really changed anything.

There are some good one liners and I like the last 15 or so minute showdown vs. Jason.

But I also find this one to be a little too crude, with the way the director seemed obsessed with ... well, crudeness lol. Not sure how to describe that.

Also, adult Tommy in this is pretty terrible. Both his portrayal and the actor playing him.

The movie does have the legendary Reggie The Reckless. So, that character really is awesome

If you listen to Danny Steinmann, the film's director, on the audio commentary and in interviews, he's like that dirty uncle who has no filter...and has to let you know about every dirty thought that crosses his mind.

Part 5 is just so rote. Steinmann said that he basically approached the film with an agenda to have a kill every set number of minutes, and boy does it feel like it. It just gets monotonous. There's also a cheapness to the production, to where it feels very stagy, for lack of a better term. I mean, the thunderstorm feels more like water towers, the flashes of lightning feel very much like stage lighting (done hilariously on cue, at one point)....everything just seems a little too clean in the final product.

I do like Manfredini's new Friday score here. It's very frenetic, even compared to the other films in the series.

I like some of the characters, but not really in any admirable way. The plot is so ridiculous...I mean, SO ridiculous in its set-up...and the "mystery" is all but solved within moments of it being in play.

I've found that the more I try and revisit the film, the more I realize that there's not much to come back to.

Oh, and on a final note, because I can't let it go: I hope that in some parallel universe, a giant cat, working as a stagehand on the set of a slasher film, throws some poor unsuspecting human into the side of a diner seat for a cheap jump scare.

It wouldn't be right, but it would balance things out.

fair enough with the 13th film, i'm 40 but shit i remember years upon years ago i dunno the year or who said it at all. shit i think it was maybe in fango at the time i dunno where i read it or saw the interview but it was said that the 13th would be the last one.

so when they stopped making them when they did i was really surprised actually. part 4 also has one of the best lines well one of many anyways, Crispin Glover being called a dead ****. that's classic.. i think Corey feldman said he saw his first naked women in his life at the pond scene. i'd say the window scene but that wasn't i don't think filmed the way it was shown on the film.

To me Part 4 is more crude than Part 5. Yeah there’s gratuitous nudity in 5 but the rest of the movie is like a horror comedy. Part 4 has at least as much gratuitous nudity and the dialogue sounds more porno-y and unrealistic than the other films. And the way certain female characters are shown is weird. Like when they show those two twin girls with their shirts hanging low or the shot where all you see are two girls’ rear ends in the forest. These aren’t even supposed to be things that one of the guys is seeing. It’s like the cameraman just decided “Oh, I’ll show this now.” Very awkward in my opinion.

If they ever get to make one more film. It should be a great story, well written and go back to Camp Crystal Lake. Come up with some new original kills and have fun with it. In other words let Jason do his thing. End the franchise on a high note. Then put together a set, if possible, with all the extras ported over from all past releases.

HA!

This franchise is going to outlive you and I.

I do agree though. I would love a proper set that carries over every single extra for all of the previous releases.

You're talking about the DVD set, correct, not Blu? The DVD set does come in a much thicker case than the Blu.

I do tend to agree with you, but Danny Steinmann seemed like a really fun and nice person. I love his commentary on Part V and his interviews too. He was very informative and hilarious. Sadly, he died on December 18, 2012 at the age of 70.

This is a "must read" regarding Danny.

Yeah, my local WM has the DVD set for $20, have not seen the Blu set in store for a while. Looks like their website has it for about $25.

One thing I remember noticing about the Friday films when I first watched them many years ago is that most of them have a scene where Jason (or his mom) throws a corpse through a window to scare someone. In my opinion that’s one of the staples of the franchise and I was surprised that a couple sequels don’t have such a scene. A Friday film must...I repeat MUST... have Jason throwing a corpse through a window!

The OOP tin set has a digital code that still redeems on VUDU... says expires 2015 but mine redeemed fine a couple months ago.

If anyone reading this is interested I have an additional sealed tin set collecting dust on the shelf.

Oh, I agree. Crazy uncles are still fun, when they're in on the joke...and Danny knew and embraced his wild side. I respect that.

That blog post looks amazing! Thank you!
