My apologies if this has been mentioned before, but if you haven't listened to the In Voorhees We Trust podcast with comedians Matt Gourley and Paul Rust, I recommend it! In each episode, they examine a Friday the 13th film with analysis, trivia, and plenty of humour (how can you not use humour when dealing with this cheesy, but fun horror franchise?). This week's episode just dropped, looking at Jason Takes Manhattan (haven't listened yet), but last week's Part VII with guest Anthony Jeselnik, was one of the best to date!

With that in mind I'd say the only real surprise that I see is that Part II has scored so highly as I'd have guessed that that entry wouldn't have been too many people's favorite from the series options.
Yes, it was really just about voting for their favorite film in the series but, just reviewing the results, it was surprising how many people voted for Part 6 as their favorite and Part 3 didn't have as many votes as I thought it would have. I think Part 2 is okay but I agree that it had more votes than I would have expected it to have. The middle 30 minutes or so of Part 2 is a bit slow.

For the longest time, Part 3 was near the bottom of my list of favorite Friday movies. But in the last year or so, it's really shot up to near the top of my list. I think the characters especially grew on me. It's also obviously one of the first 4 movies... I feel those really captured the essence of Friday and the entire camp and Jason atmosphere. Every movie after 4 ( although some like 6 and 7 I still enjoy), really don't have that same atmosphere, at least for me.

There's a new fan film being funded on Indiegogo called Jason Rising. Looks decent, not as good as Never Hike Alone's campaign but still. This is actually the 2nd campaign for their funding of the film but this time they added a Blu-ray option. While it has a flexible goal, unlike NHA's fixed goal, there's still the possibility of them shutting down any orders sometime after the campaign has ended and you won't be able to get it afterwards. Fan films aren't allowed to continue to be money makers so that's a good possibility. If you felt bad about missing out on Never Hike Alone, don't double down on that feeling.

Ugh... I'm interested and the perk is at a very fair price, but it states that if they do not sell 1000 of these then none will be produced and a refund will be issued... the $10 shipping is BS though. With that said I went ahead and contributed as the trailer looks pretty fantastic on this one. Thanks for sharing!

Part 3 was the first film in the series that I ever saw and that probably plays a part in it being my favorite in the series. However, it definitely does have plenty of other things going for it:

1. They got the "Jason" character right in this one and it set the tone for what Jason would be in the rest of the series: a huge physical presence with the hockey mask and being almost beyond human in terms of strength, stealth, etc.

2. The best-looking group of women in the entire series, specifically the trio of Dana Kimmell, Tracie Savage & Catherine Parks.

3. Unique kills that shock and surprise the audience. This obviously was a hallmark of the series.

For me, it was the best of the series, as they finally got the different elements right but didn't go too far with it, as they did later (i.e. Jason basically becoming a zombie who just couldn't be stopped/killed no matter what, some annoying characters, etc.).

That podcast is so much fun. And, I agree, Jeselnik absolutely killed it (pardon the pun). Hilarious

I love Jason from Part III. If I had to nitpick, the biggest disappointment with Part III is
[Show spoiler]Pamela Voorhees jumping out of the lake!
That ending was horrible. They should've stuck with one of the alternat endings.

Still, it's a fun flick and a worthy entry in the franchise.

I voted for part VI as my favorite, and the reason is simple: it's fun. I like (almost) all of the Friday films, but they are rather ridiculous. Writer/director Tom McLoughlin understood this, and added clever touches to reinvigorate the series. And then part VII comes along and screws up everything by taking itself WAY too seriously, but I digress.

Part III is solid, and I would rank it as the 4th best of the series.

It's simply the one that got me into the series. Before I saw 6, I wasn't into any kind of horror films at all. After I saw it, I thought it wasn't too gory at all and went back to see how it got to 6. Enjoyed all of those and went on to check out Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, etc, etc.

So, yeah. Favorite, not necessarily best.

Part 3 is the first one I saw. It's a basic, workmanlike slasher. Nothing special. Basically, what everyone who's not a fan would expect any of the movies to be. 4 and 6 are the real standouts to me, and I consider the first one to be genuinely underrated.

Why would anyone care about having a fan film on BD? Watch them for free on YouTube, where they belong.

I've always thought Part 3 was underrated as well. It's easily one of my favorites to watch. I think some people just can't get past the gimmicky 3D.

Honestly, I think it adds a certain charm to the movie. It's cheesy 80's in the best possible way. It's just a very fun movie, I love it.

oh i love Part 3 and it's not cause he gets the mask in the film it's i think the writing as well as the kills. it's one of the better written ones i think. sure there was a formula by than but who cares?

i do agree that part 1 is vastly underrated because Jason isn't the star like he is in the sequels. other than the flashbacks and the ending he's really not in the film at all well not like the other films i mean. plus i prefer the ones more so where he's in shadow and isn't shown much i think it's more threatening and forboding i guess you can say where you don't see him coming compared to when you do.

the early ones showed them when they had to not cause he's what made the series famous.

Yeah, except I've never had a 'fro. And I couldn't fit "my whole world" into a tiny case. And I've never owned a wetsuit. And I'm not a guy. But other than that...

Lol! I'm watching The Town that Dreaded Sundown (1976) for the first time and I keep thinking the killer is Jason from Friday the 13th part 2. Great movie btw, both Town and Friday the 13th part 2.
