The remake to TOWN was good IMO. I like it much better then I did the original.

As did I. I need to revisit both films to get a better, more accurate assessment of what each film has to offer as I've watched each only once now, however based off those single viewings I found the original to be an absolute slog to sit through where as the remake while not great, at least managed to keep my attention.

Both films work great as a double feature (and the Blumhouse film isn’t really a remake. It’s a meta spinoff), especially if you know the true story of the Texarkana murders.

I've been dipping into my Friday the 13th blus the past couple of nights and watched part 3 lastnight. This never occured to me but Jason's long hair from part 2 has suddenly disappeared lol.

I also struggled to get through the original, I have no interest in ever seeing it again.

The original Town that Dreaded Sundown was more of a docudrama than a movie (and a pretty fictionalized one at that). It didn't really have any kind of protagonist to connect with, so that's why it can feel like such an empty viewing experience. It became more of a cop movie, which was not a very interesting approach. I appreciate the Blumhouse film, but there does need to be a better film of the Texarkana murders.

Friday the 13th Part 2 is one of the best in the series though, and the costume was a nice creepy tribute.

Part 6 would be my favorite. The uptick in visual qualities, the self awareness and rocking soundtrack make it an authentically enjoyable movie.

Those attributes are what drive me to rank Part VI at the bottom of the barrel out of the original 8 films released by Paramount. Glad you enjoy it though.

One thing that was always a favorite of F13 is how Jason constantly changed, including his mask.

I agree. It actually adds to the charm somehow and helps give each film in the series it's own identity.

I re-watched the first 4 on blu-ray recently.

Not being a big fan of indestructible villains and supernatural angles, I would rank the original film first. I like the whodunnit angle, the fact that it's a revenge story and is more rooted in reality, and there's a certain rough charm about it. I like that it doesn't feel franchised (because it isn't - yet).

My second favourite is a close toss up between The Final Chapter and Part 2. The Final Chapter has always been my second favourite in the series, and still is, but I have to say I enjoyed Part 2 a lot more than I remembered which made it a pleasant surprise. I also think Jason looks the best in Part 2 with the hood. The Final Chapter is still better though. It's no "The Prowler" but Joseph Zito really lifts the franchise's game for what was meant to be its finale.

Part 3: 3D was a real struggle. The 3D gimmick was really all that made it interesting but it's an otherwise boring slasher movie, and I don't enjoy 3D anyway.

I don't like the series very much after The Final Chapter and think it should have ended there, though I do remember that Part VI was definitely one of the more entertaining mid to late 80s franchise slasher sequels and "He's Back (The Man Behind The Mask)" is one of my favourite Alice Cooper songs.

He's still wearing the same clothes from Part III for the rest of the series until Jason Goes to Hell. His clothes just decompose in the years he was dead and the years when he was buried underwater (the timeline is ridiculous). That is my favorite part of the series as well, his decomposition over time

Several years ago (I think it was when Jason Goes to Hell was released) FANGORIA published an article attempting to explain the Friday the 13th timeline. It was one of the funnier things I've read. Even if you are a die-hard fan of these movies, you've gotta have a healthy sense of humor about them.

... and now gives NECA more "ultimate Jason" figures to make, of which I have to have them all. Roy (part 5) is pre-ordered, and I just got the remake one.

I can't tell you how many hours my childhood friend and I spent back in the late 80's, trying to make sense and rationalize the timeline of these movies. It was so much fun, and one of the cornerstones of that friendship. The more things didn't fit together, the more we enjoyed thinking up outrageous justifications.

My friends and I thought Jason was at the bottom of Crystal Lake for years, and he came back as a vengeance demon when mama was dispatched. It wasn't until I was in my twenties that I realized he never drowned, and has been living in the woods by himself for decades. In a horror movie sort of way, my version actually makes more sense...

It’s fun coming up with crazy theories, why don’t we all share some on here?

Here’s one I’ve thought about... Jason never drowned in Crystal Lake. He survived, but not by himself in the woods. His mother saved him but she was driven to homicide anyway because of the irresponsibility of the counsellors who nearly caused him to die. She was so overprotective that she probably kept him locked up for his own protection and he grew up to became just as crazy and homicidal as his mother. He didn’t witness her decapitation but went looking for her and found her body and set up a shrine in the woods.

I still haven't gotten part 4 Jason. Pretty excited for the Roy figure though.
