In fact, all of the stock characters in Part 5 show off the seedy and ugly underbelly of Crystal Lake. You got pyscho rednecks, homeless perverts, leather boys, and cocaine fueled orderlies. Jason and Roy are just the tip of the iceberg in that freakshow of a town lol |

For my own personal Friday the 13th holiday, the wife, kids and I rewatched Freddy vs. Jason.
As "Friday" fans we're already aware of Jason's psychological issues before we arrive at this film, but here we, at least I do, really connect with Voorhees on an emotional level. This is easy to when compared with Freddy, the child murderer, who's shown licking the back of the photos of his victims, placing their portraits in his scrapbook. Jason we know, by way of Part VI: Jason Lives, does not kill children, only the "guilty" who have trespassed his hollowed ground at the behest of his beloved mother. Even here in this film, he goes to Elm Street at the orders of his mother to kill those who have been "naughty". This may sound a little ridiculous, I mean, I am defending a psychotic lunatic, it's just that I've been partial to the beloved hockey-masked killer since I was just a boy. So, I like to find the "innocence" in him, lol. With all of that said, the look and the way Voorhees carries himself in this film is ultra-sexy. Those characteristics along with the emotional connection, and the menacing gaze makes this Jason one of the best takes on the character, in my opinion. My favorite scene in the whole film is right after Freddy is pulled out of the dream world. That shot of Voorhees as he approaches Krueger, who's shaking like a b!+ch, with the heavy-metal score playing is legend, and literally brings a smile to my face everytime I watch the movie ![]() |

It's a suspenseful mystery, which sets it apart from the sequels. There we know who's doing the killing - and why - and are just waiting for the next obligatory Jason appearance and stabby bit. Obviously that's half the fun in context, but I'm just pointing it out to explain why I like the original that bit more. I like Jason Lives the most because it adds self-aware humour (long before it was fashionable) and is great fun.

I find Jason X very entertaining -- BUT, I can't understand why series fans don't like it. It's not really a Friday the 13th movie. It's a futuristic horror that has transplanted Friday's bogeyman into new trappings. That's not what traditionalists want to see. They want Jason back in his old camp slaughtering promiscuous teenagers. I get that. But I don't think it makes Jason X bad. If you treat it as some sort of spin-off it's actually a lot of fun.
