Also, I wonder when Scream might announce this? It's pretty much leaked at this point, and with Comic Con likely to be cancelled, I wonder if we will hear about this soon?

i'm amused that this petition is challenging paramount pictures to release an alternate cut for a movie they don't own.

Agreed. The pumpkin against black was always epic and they placed it well on the back of the box. For F13, I hope they do something similar with this image:

Not much gets me little kid-excited anymore in my later years.

That would be Triple Scoop Sunday/Can't Sleep on Saturday-level of excitement to me!

Well, we have the person in the thread claiming that he knows someone that's actually working on the release, but there's no real way to verify that until it's actually announced (or until Amazon or another retailer leaks it, see: Hell Night).

That said, Paramount doesn't own all the films in the series; they only own the first eight, and Warner Bros holds the last four. The last box set came at a time when WB was distributing a large chunk of Paramount's catalog on home video, which allowed them to put out the original box set.

While it's not completely out there for Paramount to license the WB films to do their own box set, it honestly doesn't seem like something they're interested in doing (even with the studio showing more of an interest in home video, either through their own company or by licensing, as of late). For the 40th Anniversary, their current plans are to rerelease the same Blu-Ray that's been out for over a decade at this point in a steelbook case.

It's known that Scream has current deals with both Paramount and Warner Bros, and we know that this franchise is one they'd jump at the chance to do, so it seems logical that, if this box set is actually happening, they're the ones behind it.

I'd expect it to be only Blu-Ray and not 4K either. I'd love for Shout/Scream to start releasing a lot more in the format, but I feel like if The Deer Hunter doesn't do well, we may be SOL. I could see Paramount eventually doing a UHD of the first movie though, and in that case, I'd probably just make my own "combo pack" with the version in the box set, like I did with my Halloween set.

And you're right, it's best to take this news with a grain of salt until we get confirmation from Scream themselves. It's something to look forward to, though, especially with the previous box set being OOP for a number of years now.

And then they'll have to work overtime on getting an Elm Street box set prepped.

probably the only thing that would make me double-dip at this point. i love me features, but i seldom find time for them anymore. the JGtH unrated DVD is good enough for me for how often i watch that flick. i already have Crystal Lake Memories w/ the limited bonus disc. so this would be a really tough sell for me, unless they can manage this seemingly oh-so-simple thing. (PLUS more new features, oh h*ll yeah i would)

I have mixed feelings about this potential announcement. I'm just fine with the 8-film set, the Warner releases of FvJ/F13-09, and Crystal Lake Memories, and really just need JGTH and Jason X. This would have to be pretty enticing for me to double dip on the rest. New scans would be a plus (certainly on 4K UHD), and also a wealth of new bonus features. But if they release JGTH and Jason X individually, I'll probably just jump on those.

I have a couple of sealed sets and with this announcement I'm wondering, "Should I sell them now before they possibly lose value?"

But then I'm like, "Why would they lose value? They already re-released the 8 Paramount films in a set and you can get the others individually. JGTH and JX can be imported. I highly doubt people are paying hundreds just for that disc. People are buying it for so much because it's cool and rare on it's own as a set."

That Paramount 8 film set is the exact same discs as the ones in the tin, aren't they? So, it's not hard to get these movies on blu.

I think the novelty of the tin set is that it’s all 12 films together, and still the only way to get such a collection. The value would absolutely go down if Shout released a complete collection, especially if it included the actual 3D for Part 3 and the unrated JGTH.
