The characters are annoying, for the most part, but the cinematography is solid, the tension is spot-on, and some scenes are actually stupendous, for lack of a better word. |

Just watched "The New Blood" and I'd give it a 9.5/10
Despite all the claims that this one was rushed through production to compete with new kid on the block Freddy Krueger it features some of the best visuals of the franchise. Honestly Friday has never felt so glossy, very few films in this franchise feel bigger than a made for TV film but this one is a real high-concept cinematic treat. I was wary of the move away from slashers in Jason Lives but here I might go as far as to say it's my new favourite of the franchise. |

I think of it the same, actually. It feels like it could easily be a sequel and I kinda like to think of it as an alternate part 8 (I always felt the series became goofy beginning with that particular entry and got even worse with the following three films). It works in a way like that since at the end of 7 when Jason's pulled into the water and loses his mask and clothing that he somehow made it back to the woods and over the years regenerated to his more human form and of course would've had time to get the clothes he has in the reboot and make himself the sack mask. |

Most of the on the disc special features (basically everything but the extras exclusive disc I will check out at the end) have been pretty uninspiring so far so I was surprised by how much good stuff New Blood had considering the older discs had less extras and didn't have two movies on them, so where'd they find the space for all this?
No there is no feature length documentaries and there is a surprising amount of repetition considering they are basically just featurettes but we get to see (admittedly very rough prints due to it all being destroyed) the completed, unbasterdised MPAA deaths, Kane Hodder and John Buechler seem like a great dudes and have a lot of fun when they share a featurette together. They're really personal and honest about their project where much of the earlier extras were not only far less detailed but much dryer and clearly more mandated by Paramount. |

Me, too. I know some fans are split on part 7 with the telekinesis stuff, but I thought the movie pulled it off rather well and didn't treat it in a jokey manner, which is why it works. It was refreshing for Jason to be up against a victim who actually posed a serious threat to him for once. I agree with the general consensus that 1-4 are the scariest, but I also love 6 and 7. I really enjoy the Tales From The Crypt/Vault Of Horror/EC Horror comics vibe those both have and they still fit in well with the prior films. |

[Show spoiler] Just seemed a bit silly. Kane Hodder is also not the most effective Jason for me, at least in this one - for instance, he emotes like a wrestler when he's unmasked, coming across as more theatrical than truly frightening. That said, it's the seventh installment, and of all the fresh spins they could have put on it, a telekinetic heroine is not too bad. I kinda like it. |

Some fans are split on Kane Hodder but I think in part 7 he was excellent. Definitely one of the best Jasons based on that film IMO, though I do prefer Ted White and C.J. Graham.

For me Ted White is by far the best and most intimidating Jason.
Kane Hodder is a nice guy, but his Jason is way too over-acty. The exaggerated heavy breathing and healing is distracting as hell. He never did that when he was alive, so why would he be breathing more heavily as a corpse? Or suddenly be bulky to a gym rat? CJ is certainly the best corpse Jason. I guess it's always rubbed me the wrong way the over zealous nature of Hodder fans, with his and their general attitude that the role should always be his and that he is the role. Tall talk for the guy coming into the series on part 7. and being when said in *****yness about the newwest Jason that "jason doesn't run" it really took the cake. For a guy so in touch with the character, he seems to have not actually seen Friday the 13th part 2,3 or 4. |

I prefer C.J. Graham as the undead/corpse Jason as well. While Kane did a good job in part 7, I like how more "predatory" C.J.'s Jason is for lack of a better term and he feels more consistant somehow with the Jasons of 2-4. I also like the speedwalking he did, even undead and slowed he still made an effort to really pursue his prey. I'd really like to see him reprise the character if Derek Mears doesn't.

I couldn't agree more. He seems like the undead evolution of part 4 Jason.
Where part 7 Jason seems like a different, new character. Which is fine, it's subjective, a lot of people love that Jason. I just don't, as much. But it's still far more entertaining than the FvJ incarnation. I will say for my gripes about Hodder and the script in general, the makeup and kills are some of the series best. The look and feel of the film is also superb. I also liked their take on the Jason mask and his makeup, great stuff. |

The Jason look in 7 is great, but I find I prefer the classic look from, 3, 4 and 6 with the green work shirt and grey work pants. I wish they'd use that look for him again. I even like the combat waistbelt he had in 6 and would like to see that back. That said, in part 7 it made sense for him to look so deteriorated and destroyed given what he'd incurred over the course of parts 2-4 and 6. He looks like a monster right out of an EC Horror comic in 7.

I just watched "Jason Takes Manhattan", which is not only the lowpoint of the series so far but easily one of the worst films I have ever watched.
As most people know - and despite the films title - little of the film actually takes place in Manhattan and takes such an unexpectedly twisted and dark turn (the uncomfortable, awkward kind) once we get there, you'll wish we never arrived. This film is complete and utter trash, no I'd go beyond that and call it utter filth. For the record my least favourite film of all time is Aftershock, sure there may be far worse constructions but I'm pretty sure there are paedophiles out there with more moral integrity than Aftershock which is the first film I've ever watched that has no entertainment value on any level at all from start to finish. I bring this up, because the violent putrescence of Aftershock was apparently inspired by this film which now share the ability to make me wretch until my eyes water and my throat burns if I even test the thought of watching this again. It's the only Friday film so far where Jason is less of a threat than Manhattan's street thugs who threaten the Final Girl with rape as we watch as they inject her with heroin to make her compliant. I always watched Friday and thought about how much I needed rape and hardcore drug abuse in the next sequel to really spice things up. Takes Manhattan isn't fun, this isn't entertainment, this isn't even sleaze, it's just nasty. Oh and don't worry it isn't just isolated here, hard drug use and characters so foul you can smell them like it's 4D riddle the film like maggot ridden tumours. This is the closest I've come to turning off a Friday film and gleefully attacking it with a machete because it's so long and so repulsive it was like choosing to ram a pencil through my ankle and twirl it around in there for two hours, God I've never wanted a film to be over so badly. If "Freddy's Dead" was the entry in the Nightmare franchise that is undeserving of a single star, then this is the Friday equivalent. I refuse to ever watch this film ever again. |
