Is there much of a difference in PQ between the upscaled DVD and HDX version of JGTH?

I'll throw in the dvd now and let you know. I've been wanting to listen to the commentary that everyone raves about anyway.

On a 55" screen you will probably notice a difference. Example...the heart at the coroner's lab at the beginning is noticeably clearer and has more of an HD look, whereas the DVD looks soft.

Update: The HDX version is definitely a worthy upgrade, especially for the $7 that I paid for it. Having said that, the DVD does look sufficient upscaled.

I created a mkv file from the DVD with "makeMKV". Running it through Kodi, it looks quite ok. The Vudu HDX version do look slightly better thou...

Anybody interested in selling a HD unrated version of JGTH?

I live in Norway so it is impossible for me to use Vudu or any other "amazon streaming HD services"

I HATED that warner didn`t bother using the UNRATED version of JGTH in the boxset!

How would one go about doing that? Is there a way to rip a VUDU movie to disc?

I guess it's probably possible one way or the other. No easy way to do it. Vudu is easy to access outside US thou.

You never mentioned if you put the DVD or Blu-ray release in your VUDU disc to digital cart.

You put the HD version in your cart. Then put in the the dvd disc and it will offer SD and HD digital versions at $2 and $4. Pick the $2 (sd) one. When you checkout the HD version will be in your cart at the $2 price. Hope that helps.

The hardcover coffee table book, Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th, arrived on my doorstep this morning. It's a Christmas gift from a relative and it was held up due to shipping delays, but it's great to see it at long last.

I just flipped through it, and it's a beautiful book. I'm looking forward to giving it a thorough read after I finish a couple of books in my current reading stack.

Definitely check out The Slasher Movie Book. It's full of great illustrations and covers the Slasher genre in full. They devote the most pages to Halloween and Friday, but there are literally hundreds of Slasher films in that book.

Who else here thinks that the r rated version of the original Friday the 13th is better than the uncut version? The overhead shot of kevin bacon with the arrow sticking out of his neck looks way too fake.

In all honesty, I have not seen the R-rated version of Friday the 13th (1980) in so long that I've forgotten what is different.

I like the arrow sequence, and, although crude, it works quite well for me.

I only seen the unrated cut. I think it look as it should - a classic slasher with the effects of it's time. Also, I would never chose a cut version over an uncut. I understand many americans prefer the R-rated cut since that's the one they are used to. To each their own I guess.

The overhead shot is missing from the R rated cut.

[Show spoiler]

It's the only really noticeable change, the scenes with Annie, Marci and Mrs Voorhees just run slightly longer.
