Does anyone know when the Criterion sale takes places at B&N? Wanting to get The Irishman when it comes out on BD but don't want to pay $35 for it.

My ability to buy more titles with the same budget made it pretty clear to me that the average price for blu-rays was lower, but I did not realize that the average was this much lower. Thanks for quantifying it.

Traditionally, Barnes & Noble has a 50% off Criterion sale every July and November.

Criterion's own website usually holds a similar one day flash sale in October and at other times. They email notifications to people. When you buy discs at Criterion directly, you earn reward points, too, that lead to a $50 gift certificate when you hit 1000 points.

That has been the case with me also. Even taking into consideration I have bought more special editions, limited editions etc..

While I feel that Godfather III is the worst of the three movies, it is still pretty good overall. Sofia Coppola's part strikes me as mostly unnecessary and her part runs for far too long. Her performance in this role is simply cringe worthy. Minus her, I like the movie a lot.

I am very much interested in seeing and owning this new edit, but I can't help but think that a 4K edition of it and the whole trilogy are around the corner.

What name did I call you? I asked if you were being deliberately goofy by stating the obvious; that's it.

Saying that everything is "all digital" is meaningless and it does not mean that all digital files are equal in quality. VC-1 and H.265 are both types of digital encodes, but one is clearly superior to the other.

I hate to break it to you, but you have never cornered anyone. Stating the obvious like:

is a fact, but it is no revelation as everyone already knows this. Telling us that companies need to earn a profit is another obvious fact that you feel the need to repeat; we all already know this, too.

Your contention that discs prices are getting higher has been disproved many times, so on that point you are still flat-out wrong.

No one objects to your liking all things streaming. No one minds that you think that it looks "Fantastic" and "Outstanding", either; you are entitled to your opinion.

It is even okay that you predict the end of all physical media; you are not the only person who believes this.

The problem is that you take every opportunity to tell us how "cool" you think this outcome would be. You want this to happen because you know how much it would upset those of us that care about it. You take great pleasure in saying that discs are dying. You ALWAYS punctuate your statements to that effect with this emoji:

You said this on Jan. 10, 2017 and you have been doing exactly this ever since. You effectively admitted to being a troll and "embellish" is just another way of saying that you like to tell lies.

In your own words, you made your purpose at this website plain to all. You are only here to annoy those who prefer discs. Well, and to scrounge for cheap digital codes from the very people that you enjoy irritating.

For Canadians here: Resident Evil 6-movie collection in 4K and Atmos is only (approx) US$50 and the regular HD is only approx US$10 for 6 movies. Why choose inferior streaming version for the same price or higher?

You always have to have the last word, I'm sure I will get a reply to this too. You like to dig things up from the past, I have tried to change my ways and be more sensitive. I just like that Cool emoji. Now you guys want me to get rid of that. Cevolution was right, you guys are like Pack Wolves, just jump on the Streaming Guy. Maybe he will come back and straighten you guys out.

That information that Wendell had about BD cost coming down only means that the Profit Margin has probably come down too. If people don't want to pay the Market Price then the cost for making that Disc will not be met. Putting that Disc Market in jeopardy!

Digital & Physical: The Future of Home Video Discussion Thread

That's the title of this thread. So why do many of you disc cheerleaders get your panties in a wade when someone talks about the benefits of Digital and how it can be the future of home video?

The whole point is that you are still doing it; it is not past behavior; it is ongoing behavior.

A better place to use your favorite emoji is after you tell us how much you luvs streaming. When you use it after joyously predicting the death of discs that's where it becomes irritating.

You are not being criticized for liking streaming. Most of us here like and use streaming. We just prefer discs far more. Many of us have digital collections just like you do and we use the same streaming services that you do. None of us would bother with streaming if we hated it. We have not wished for it to die like you have with physical media.

You are criticized for gleefully predicting the death of physical media. Predicting it is fine, but you delight in the very thought and you make certain that we know it. You have been doing this ever since you joined this thread. Bashing the blu-ray format is against forum rules and you were recently publicly admonished by a moderator for doing exactly that. If you prefer much more recent quotes to remind you that you still do this, I can pull it up for you.

Most of us here use both; we are not anti-streaming. We would not spend our time and our money on something that we hated.

We passionately debate the differences between the formats and many of us reject the idea that physical media will cease to be offered in the future. We really take exception to those that relish the idea.

I don't know how anyone can be so one-sided.. on either side when the benefits of both are painfully obvious.

Streaming = convenience.
Disk = Better quality, tangible product that cannot be taken away.

Because "tangible product that cannot be taken away" far outweighs the benefits of "convenience". I will never support any art form that can be taken away.

See I was under the impression this thread had nothing to do with streaming. It was Physical Media sales and rentals versus EST/VOD.

As the disc often includes a digital code, you don't have to choose one over the other. You get both when you buy the disc.

I like having the ability to access some of my titles when I am away from home. I do not like taking discs with me when I travel.

I also like being able to share access to my digital collection with friends, especially during this pandemic when we are all practicing social distancing.

The digital copy could act as a back-up copy, too, should there be a problem with the disc or the disc player. Exchanging a defective disc and replacing/ repairing a disc player takes time; the digital copy makes it possible to watch the movie while waiting for resolution to such problems.
