Box Office: 'Wonder Woman 1984' Struggles to $3M Weekend, Crosses $131M Globally - Hollywood Reported 1/10/21

Quote:
Wonder Woman 1984 stayed atop the domestic box office chart in its third outing, but continued to fall off steeply.

Overall it was a grim weekend for the North American theaters as total revenue tumbled 93 percent compared to the same weekend a year ago due to the ongoing pandemic and no new wide releases.

WW84 took in an estimated $3 million — a drop of 47 percent — for a domestic cume of $32.6 million, according to Warner Bros. Overseas, WW84 grossed $4.7 million for a foreign tally of $98.8 million and $131.4 million globally.

In a controversial move, Warners made the Christmas Day tentpole available on HBO Max and in cinemas the same day because of the COVID-19 crisis and shuttered cinemas in many major markets.

Elsewhere, at the domestic box office, Universal and DreamWorks Animation's The Croods: The New Age remained at No. 2 in its seventh weekend with $1.8 million for a domestic total of $36.9 million and $127.8 million globally.

The animated pic fell a slim 19 percent despite also playing in the home after being made available on premium VOD three weeks after its theatrical debut.

Universal's News of the World fell 27 percent in its third weekend to $1.2 million for a domestic tally of $7.1 million. It held at No. 3.

Holding at No. 4 was Sony's Monster Hunter, which took in $1.1 million for a domestic total of $7.8 million. Lionsgate's Fatale rounded out the top five with $670,000 for a total of $4 million.

Overseas, Disney's Soul became one of the top-grossing Pixar titles of all time in China upon finishing Sunday with $36 million. Soul, which is only playing on Disney+ in the U.S. and certain international markets, has grossed a total of $47.3 million at the foreign box office.
The Croods: The New Age seems to be outlasting WW84.

First Reactions to 'WandaVision' Praise Marvel's First Disney+ Series as "Delightfully Trippy" & "Brilliant - Collider 1/9/21

Premise
Quote:
Set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, WandaVision, created by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, finds Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) happily married in the town of Westview. But their marital bliss is interrupted by forces that cause them to cycle through decades amidst television tropes. And these disturbances, which are set to have a far-reaching impact on the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, set the stage for the third Spider-Man film and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, may be behind Vision’s unexplained resurrection and Wanda’s expanding powers which will inevitably earn her the moniker Scarlet Witch.

While WandaVision isn’t a direct adaptation of any specific Marvel Comics storyline, the teasers and trailers for the series have referenced several plot points familiar to comic reading fans. Those looking to step into the MCU’s introduction to Phase 4 with some background knowledge, and wow their friends and family with WandaVision theories, can power up with this compilation of essential Marvel Comics storylines that look to have the most impact on the series, and perhaps lay the groundwork for the future of the MCU.

Same here but different reason, much easier to remove or insert plug. I tin the stranded wire before attaching the banana plug. I use Pomona MDP-0 and MDP-2 (red and black).

Question to Physical and Digital. Do you guys redeem your codes for a lot of Disney stuff? With Disney Plus becoming popular what would be the point in redeeming these codes? Like star wars....marvel....pixar.... Because even with redeeming them you don't own digital copies so. Just wondering what you guys do

I was actually thinking about upgrading to a 2.40:1 with this material. Thanks for sharing your review. I might reach out to you to get your thoughts at some point down the road.

Always. Certain Disney titles can disappear from Disney+ because of previous content sharing agreements with other streaming services.

Additionally I can download HD files of films to a device I travel with to watch when roaming from content providers that are linked to MA. Helpful when you are at a location without fast internet access.

In the 43 some odd years that I have wired speakers I have never had any issue with connecting bare wire to the speaker terminals. I have used banana plugs before (still do on the front pair) but they are just a mere convenience and a small added expense that produce no audible advantages IMO. I have never "damaged" the copper strands.

Everything is all connected and tonight I watched, and listened to, my first movie with an ATMOS track: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 4K disc. I had so much fun! I felt like I was in someone else's home. I waited waaaaay too long to do this.

I can't wait to see what a subwoofer does for me; it is the next phase of my little project.

I know you guys are sensitive, who said anything about Discs Fading. I said Sony was moving away from Discs. When I talked to those Support Techs it was a few years ago around 2018. With the new Sony Bravia XR and "Pure Stream," you tell me if they aren't moving in that direction!

According to Sony, Bravia Core uses “Pure Stream” technology, allowing for “near lossless UHD BD equivalent quality with streaming up to 80 Mbps.”

I do it for more reasons Vilya. Sticking tinned or bare wires in a speaker connector are more cumbersome to deal with, along with the issue of strands damaged by placing under that screw down tight speaker connectors. AC travels on the outside surface of a wire (skin effect), so the purpose of using multi-strand speaker wire is two fold, first you increase the surface area to reduce voltage drop on lower runs,, second multi-strand is more flexible, but again those strands do break when bent once. How many here have use screw down plugs and found multiple pieces of wire strands around the speaker posts. So think of it this way you are maximizing the AC voltage transfer from the AVR to each speaker.

When you look on google it comes to this statement
Quote:
It has been speculated that finely stranded power cables sound brighter and improve high frequency performance in amplifiers due to greater skin effect. ... This is because passing high frequencies is never at the expense of passing low frequencies in a conductor of adequate gauge
So yeah you might not hear anything but then how would hear high frequencies barely attenuated? Hmmmm?

I do not recall ever finding pieces of copper strands around my speaker's posts. I simply twist the strands together, slide the bare copper into place, and tighten the screws. It's not hard to do if you just pay attention.

Its just a limited time benefit for 2021 TV owners to show those buyers Sony has 4k movie content available to stream. But that is not the Sony Pictures division, they would be selling media.

Years ago you had Sony Pictures selling media, while Sony TV division thinking streaming would be all they need, instead of media, so they offer a HD streaming service. Literally Sony was ridiculed for being so stupid, not selling BD players to help sell media.

This is just a repeat, its marketing, but this time Sony Pictures is still selling media, and Sony still makes and sells BD players, and that is not going away.

quote the internet
Quote:
Copper Corrosion
As more of this oxide forms, it weakens the integrity of the copper making it brittle and crumbly, a process known as corrosion. Corrosive copper wire is less efficient at moving electricity and can cause safety hazards.
This is why after you untwist wires that been on speaker posts for some time some short strands might break off. Even if you are careful.

It does not matter how "popular" Disney+ becomes, I like to collect movies. I don't have and will likely never have Disney+

I buy Physical media and redeem the codes.

Thankfully, Disney releases a lot on physical media.
