Nice. You can stack it for additional savings. I'm good until December of this year doing that.

Ms Pac Man has always been a favorite of mine and this cabinet has Galaga too.

I don't know much about PS5 but it seems lovely.

I did buy a 40th Anniversary Ms Pac Man 1Up and I enjoy it so much I haven't modified it to play more games yet. It was on clearance and I tried for a week to leave it at the store.

That’s cool. Used to love PAC-Man!

The PS5 is great. The graphics are stunning to be honest. The haptic feedback on the controller works really well also. Spatial audio using headphones is good with multi directional sound effects and distinct background noise. It really does feel like a generational leap with 4K gaming.

The unit is HUGE but I love the style. White really works well in this case.

I thought he said he might be inactive for a while? I took it to mean several weeks but could be wrong.

Hope he is ok.

Years ago when our kids were much younger, a buddy of mine and I scored a couple of old arcade cabinets that were being chucked out of a Chuck E. Cheese like establishment. It was hosting one of the weekly kids parties that we would attend back then.

We loaded them up into his pickup truck, sourced out a couple of CRT monitors and then built our own MAME machines. My kids grew up playing all the classic quarter gobblers I played back in the 80's along with some obscure wacky Japanese titles.

On my last HT purge, the cabinet got moved into my furnace room where it has seen very little use since ....but make no mistake, I have plans for it in the grand foyer I am planning for my "retirement home" theater.

I was a pinball junkie in my formative years, spending hours in an arcade or pizza shop that had that certain machine I wanted to master. During my summers at college, I was fortunate enough to be at a coastal town in Maryland working and enjoying all the benefits of being at a beach. On my days off, I would go in to an arcade with $1 worth of quarters, play for an hour, and walk away leaving credits on the machine. To this day, the one thing I still think about picking up is one of those machines I was married to all those years ago. I even have the spot picked out in the basement, but damn they are expensive nowadays.

Man, I hope Vilya is well too.

It's been a minute, and hope the rest of y’all are doing well. Life has been throwing me curveballs lately, and just threw me another one tonight. So I might be looking for a new place to live.

Back on topic: It’s been awhile since I’ve bought physical and have been streaming when I’ve not been playing Xbox Game Pass games. I signed up for a free month of Paramount+, but only watched a few things on it. I did enjoy the Reacher series on Prime.

It would be a solid rectangle not transparent or faded.

Besides, a lens cap could give you a total black viewing area like VR (only without the recreation of a real cinema)

If you mean field of view and clipping, that would surely be solved as the tech evolves.

Anthony, my iPad is acting up not letting me quote and the keyboard is sticking, I will get back to you with this.
OK let me try this IMHO

something like

cool you want to see real life and all those graphics interspersed and overlaid to real stuff in real time. that to me is AR

this is obviously done with a projector but

this would not be cool with glasses. I would not want to see that guy, see furniture, see wallpaper fighting with the image from the video. That wis why we project onto a white or grey screen and not on an existing wall with wall paper, that is why we install projectors on the ceiling and not at eye level.

Yeah, your first example. Although more elaborate examples are possible (not to the extent of your second example though) Think floating holograms that are crystal clear.

Sony/Xbox have not made any such announcement. Personally I think it is TCL trying to find a use for their 8x TVs. If there were a pro next year I am sure we would have already have heard something from Sony. Plus they would not be ramping up production of their current version, they would need to take some down to dedicate to a new version.

yeah the first was just an image of a HUD for a car, how elaborate or what other uses AR can have is much more , though I do think we need to make sure we don't over do it (TMI can be worst then not enough.

Maybe my experience of the tech from a bi-gone era is coloring my perception but back then there was bleed through from reality (i.e. like image#2 the guy is there so you see him and the colorful image made from the glasses.

If that was the image of a film I would not want to see that guys torso as part of it, I would want the movie image to be without the real life background or people in it.

let me put it this way. if I brought my projector to my son's room and projected it on the wall with wall paper of hockey players those hockey players will mess up the image. If I took my old AR glasses the same thing would happen. What I know I would want and I think most people will want when it comes to videos to be able to tune out reality in the part of the video that has the image of the video.

Yes, the tactile feedback of the controller is superb. The VR version is still the superior version, it’s immersion is amazing but still enjoyed PS5 version. Very impressed so far. In general, the graphics feel like a step up, which should be the case of course.
