Pre Covid we would get down to north Miami once or twice a year to visit the inlaws while they were wintering...My wife and I have considered buying a place in the same complex because the prices are dirt cheap compared to Toronto real estate.... but our kids have zero interest in going back anytime soon and, if I owned, I'd feel the need to go at least once a year..

Can devices that Dolby Vision always handle HDR10 also?

Not always. Vizio’s 2016 Reference Series is an example of TV sets that can handle Dolby Vision but not HDR10, at least not at launch, at the time of writing. Reportedly, this will follow with a future software update. Most of the time however, TVs with Dolby Vision support HDR10. That’s because Dolby Labs has developed a ‘universal playback solution’ for HDR, internally called ‘VS10’. In its press releases, Dolby describes VS10 as follows:

- “As a universal HDR playback solution, Dolby Vision VS10 offers unique value by combining the ability to play back Dolby Vision content as well as other HDR profiles based on the SMPTE ST 2084 standard through one integrated playback solution. This enables a high-quality HDR experience on products ranging from entry level to high end by leveraging the capabilities of the respective hardware as much as possible.”

It may not be clear from this description but VS10 supports HDR10. The playback solution for devices will receive any HDR format based on SMPTE ST-2084 and ST-2086. Of course, it delivers the best HDR experience with Dolby Vision. Devices based on Dolby Vision VS10 will play back a variety of HDR content types, including HDR10 from Ultra HD Blu-ray and UHDA-certified HDR content.

VS10 has been adopted by several semiconductors manufacturers already, including HiSilicon, Mediatek, Mstar and RealTek. TVs made using these chipsets should be able easily to support HDR10.

So no, that is supposed to be a new feature of Dune players. VS10 should be inactive for SDR content.

Then in the early 1990's we went on a Caribbean Cruise out of Miami. But I love the Beaches, California has some real nice ones I even Surfboard in the '60's. Also in Vietnam, Chu Lai had a Beach we would go to.
From Panama City, FL to Dolphin Island, AL the beach sand is refereed to as Pearly White Sugar Sand. Miami may have the Gold Coast but that area should be the Platinum coast. Real estate at crazy prices.

The MS Gulf Coast has a white/yellow sand but it is imported. The Gulf side of the Gulf Islands do have the sugar sand.

I have the box setup to output EVERYTHING as LLDV. I'll have to check again...but I'm pretty sure the VS10 logo pops up in the left hand corner.

In a rarely spoken about episode in my earl 20's, I spent some time in Sarasota....I can speak about the white sand...

That’s one benefit of living here. Winter is nice and cold.

I detest warm weather. The coming months are an endurance test for me.

Yeah, I hate the heat. We're in a bit of heat wave right now and Summer starts in less than a week. Of course Summer here lasts 3-6 months - goes right into the Fall seasons nowadays.

On a different note, my Panasonic 820 arrived today and I will set that up later tonight. I also ordered a dedicated PS5 media remote. It was time and I was able to pair that off earlier today.

Watched The Black Phone last night and it was stellar. Wow, what a film! Definitely getting the 4K of that. May also go back to see it in theaters when it officially opens.

6 months of heat? My worst nightmare.

I’m going to blind buy The Black Phone later in the year, looks great. Glad you enjoyed it.

You guys don't know anything about Heat, I lived 13 years in Palm Desert/Palm Springs where the temperatures can go up to high three digits with no problem. You just have to adapted and have good air conditioning!

High three digits? So around 800-900 degrees?

Wouldn’t be much help for my chronic Bletharitis and dry eye (which is worse in warm weather)

I wouldn’t be able to live there, simple.

Well,

I’m happy to be going North today to my primary home so I can start evaluation of my Zidoo Z9X.

The beach house is mainly for my daughter who will work and go to school here.

I’m ok with Florida weather and I like to swim in the ocean and I love beach Volleyball.

I go back and forth with the media server idea but the Zidoo had a great combination of price and features so I’m excited to give it a try.

I believe you will like it, lots of features for a little box. The next firmware update for the Zappiti Neo is supposed to have a 2.35 feature where menu, info and subtitles can be moved into the 2.35 frame like the Oppo UHD BD players. A great feature for those of us with scope screens. Would expect Dune and Zidoo to get this as well if they don't already have it.

Although I have a CIH A/T screen, and haven't played with it, the latest beta firmware for the ZIDOO has the 2:35 to 1 feature...

With your newer JVC, you may not need half the features that I'm benefiting from on the ZIDOO... but if you like it half as much as I'm enjoying mine, you'll be 👍...

If I'm not mistaken, you have an issue with ads... there are absolutely none to be had here, in fact I'm using the unfortunately named CANCER skin for the main menu. I'm not a person who cares about aesthetics, but it's simple black and white ui is a big improvement on the box's native PLAYSKOOL look....

There would be no life at those temperatures, I'm talking about high for the desert. Palm Desert/Palm Spring around 115, and I have seen it go to 120. Here in St George the hottest spot in Utah 102-103 with the highest 115. Now in Death Valley the lowest spot in the US can go to a record 134, that will cook your Tennes!

It is a major issue for the southwestern US, rising temperatures and 40 million people dependent on a ever shrinking Colorado River.
