People have been writing to Criterion to fix this problem, but so far there has been no official response.

I hope they will certainly fix that. You may have to put the disc in the mail and wait a while.

Historically, Criterion has been excellent about correcting problems. Here's hoping that tradition is still alive and well.

Don’t know how many other fans of Westworld there are amongst us, but it looks like the plug was pulled. Maybe another network swoops in and grabs it. 4th season comes out on disc soon also.

In the Sound of Metal thread this was posted:

Quote:
Criterion got back to me and said this: "I can confirm that there is only one SDH option on our SOUND OF METAL release, and that you are accessing it correctly. I can also confirm that there are variations between the SDH track available on our SOUND OF METAL release and what is streaming on Amazon. We've noted your concern and passed along your email to our Production team for further review and consideration."

So I guess we'll see what happens.

It sounds like Criterion doesn't consider it a big issue.

A significant amount of dialog in the form of subtitles is missing due to this error and this error only appears on the Criterion disc release. The absence of subtitles during the scenes where only sign language is being used is a big issue.

I would not read very much into that initial response to a single forum member's query beyond that Criterion is still investigating the situation. This release is not even two month's old yet. The more people that write to Criterion requesting that they fix this oversight the better the chances are that they will do so.

that is OK, none of us expect you to share info you don't have. The fact that we now know it is not permanent I am sure was more than enough info for many of us and we can look forward for the day he is back.

Picked up Unchartered 4K, Moonfall 4K, Beast Blu-ray, and Where the Crawdads Sing Blu-ray all for $10 each from Amazon. Looks like some early BF deals have been popping up.

You'd have to pay me $10 to own Moonfall and another $100 for me to watch it again.

Let me know what you think of the other titles.

Yeah. I was on the fence even at $10. The movie that is a great deal at $6 which kinda snuck by some folks however is Copshop. If you or anyone liked Bullet Train, you should like it also. Some assassins and bad guys going at it with a bit of humor thrown in. Doesn’t have the big names in it like Bullet Train, but still had a blast with it. Good looking and sounding disc also.

I wouldn't take Moonfall for free if it were offered. It's also $8.99 used on GameFly.

It doesn’t look good for my decision, but Hey! Vilya bought USS Indianapolis also! It looks like we both had a momentary lapse in judgement. I grabbed Moonfall mostly for the technical merits as the video and audio are supposed to be impressive.

I like Nicolas Cage and when the price is right I buy even his lesser works. The real story of the USS Indianapolis is very interesting and while this movie doesn't do it justice by a longshot, it remains the only movie that I know of about it.

But Moonfall doesn't even have Nicolas Cage going for it. All of the eye and ear candy in the world can't elevate the mess that is Moonfall. It is not even so bad that it is fun; it is just plain ordinary awful.

That's just my opinion, of course. I hope that you get at least $10 worth of fun out of it.

Thoughts on Sing after you watch. Have in my Netflix queue but could be a rare blind buy.

That’s fair and I like Cage also. I think of the classic Jaws scene with Quint telling the story of the Indianapolis anytime I see the Cage movie pop up.

I just did a run through of my collection and came up with two movies that I bought but couldn’t finish due to how bad they were. The Predator with Thomas Jane and Snake Eyes. Maybe Moonfall will make it a trifecta of crap.

I bought both Uncharted and Moonfall on release and didn't regret it. Those are some good deals.

I saw Where the Crawdads Sing in theaters and thought it was great. Enjoyed the score and production design. I'm still holding out hope for a UHD.

I saw this theatrically as well and thought it was a good movie. Well worth buying for $10.00.

I bought Moonfall used on 4K solely for the eye candy. Yeah, the movie is terrible but it looks really good while doing it.
