Live streaming? Yeah, itís a young persons game for gaming. I canít recall seeing a single streamer over 50. If we are talking special interests, yeah, I have seen cooking streams with older people.

You do know Iím talking shout Twitch/Youtube style live tv right? Iím not talking about regular streaming.
While I donít utilize it, I do know people in my demographic that do

We arenít all over the place. At least Iím not. Iím laser focussed on building my disc collection to extreme levels with some never before released titles and unusual titles that I never expected to see on Blu-ray. Those discs will be guaranteed to play on the new PS5 and that console will also play UHD discs. Thatís a safe bet for at least the next decade.

Your ORIGINAL argument was for the Ďon life supportí Digital HD until you realised that was a dead end and now you are championing Subscription. You continue to deprive yourself of top quality A/V and the reason for this is your setup is bang average. Streaming will look decent to you because you donít know better. Streaming will sound decent to you because you donít know better. While my system purrs when it gets a high quality source (UHD, Blu-ray) yours cackles and scratches.

I was listening to a show about podcasts and the creators were mentioning how some broadcasters are deliberately slowing down their dialogue and being as clear as possible for folk who were listening at faster speeds. It got me thinking if speed watching does become the most popular way of watching, (90% or higher) that’s the way they would go with video as well. So, in effect the normal speed wouldn’t be available and they would just make everything more audible.

after all, podcasts are mostly listened to at higher speeds, that market recognises that. In the not too distant future, the industry might be accommodating faster speeds and normal speed is a artefact that no one bothers with.

Also, machine learning could speed up and slow down where appropriate. For example, slow down action scenes and speed up all dialogue scenes on the fly with pitch adjustment.

Guess you have not heard the latest:

Sony is shutting down PlayStation Vue

Walmart is looking to sell VUDU

Netflix continues to operate in the red, adding another 2.2 billion to their debt.

Hulu another -1.5 billion for the PY

EST for 2018 - +14%. EST for 2019 - Q1 = +6.7%, Q2= -.54%

Do I need to re-post the boothill list for streamers for you?

Eh, streaming is like Hydra, Wendell. Cut off the head, two more shall take its place! Neither format is in jeopardy.

Looked at my Amazon history. Have only ordered 10 discs (only 3 non 4k) this year.

2 of them do not come until next month and Parasite probably not until Jan/Feb.

I guess technically 11 as I bought my aunt Wizard of Oz 4k, but also bought the steelbook at Best Buy for myself

OTT (SVOD & AVOD) pay TV has made a lot of gains worldwide and is predicted to continue to do so at the expense of linear pay TV. Info from chart I posted earlier.

EST on the other hand has not done well so its future is an unknown, would not be surprised to see Apple and maybe one more with EST in a few years.

Over the years I have spent a fair amount on devices that could stream, current 3 that I am using have a combined cost of almost $900. I will order a 2019 Nvidia Sheild + IR receiver (another $230) after the Thanksgiving holidays. I stream a lot and have invested a fair amount of money into hardware but at the end of the day, for the most part, it is just pay TV. I do have a few DVD2HD that I stream because they are not available on BD or UHD BD.

You could worry forever.... or watch stuff while it's available.

I'm going to worry less and watch more.

I mean I have lots of stuff I haven't watched yet....

I understand concerns about things becoming un-available... but really maybe it isn't that much of a big deal ?...

My 2019 Amazon orders = 35 titles, 7 in to order queue, Twilight Time = 4 titles

Got Parasite 3D much sooner than first quoted by Amazon.

My concern is more digital trends like watching content sped up and short form and interactive crap disrupting and corrupting long term. The bastardisation of film continues.

Can I play, too?

Amazon = 139 titles (15 of which came from Amazon U.K. and 1 from Amazon.fr)

I don't readily know how many I bought elsewhere; I calculate that in January.

Buying the new TV slowed my movie purchases as it nuked my toy budget for a bit.

That's all I can play today. Carry on.

Isn't a better question why you are not shaking your fist at cable and satellite but you are at bozos saying that internet connections should be wired? since no one in this thread is making up BS about how great cable and sat are there is no reason to point out that it is BS.

Amazed people aren’t mite concerned about this. I mean, in the space of a decade podcasts have gone from a relatively new thing to a sensation and creatives are thinking about how to better serve folk who can listen at 1.5-2.0 speeds. In this case, slowing down their dialogue during the broadcast. Don’t you guys see the parallel here?

Disney Plus UK release date set for March 31

Quote:
A Disney Plus UK release date has finally been announced. Those across the pond were previously left in limbo in regards to when they could use the streaming service ahead of the US November 12 launch. It does come, however, with an ominous warning: “titles may vary by territory.”

So, the basics: the Disney Plus UK release date is March 31. That’s over four months until you can watch the likes of The Mandalorian as well as the hundreds-strong set of movies and TV shows available on Disney Plus. It also launches for the majority of mainland Europe on the same day, including Germany, France, Italy, and Spain, with the promise of more being announced soon. The Netherlands, meanwhile, can get their hands on Disney Plus on November 12, next week. Go figure.

Just don’t expect the list of TV shows and movies on Disney Plus to mirror the US library. “Titles may vary by territory” means exactly that. While we don’t have any idea (yet) on what will be missing out – or included exclusively – the UK rights for many popular shows, such as The Simpsons, are divided up between different broadcasters. Wrestling back those streaming rights may be beyond even the House of Mouse.

Unlike the US, there is also currently no price announcement, nor is there a way to pre-order and pay ahead of time. The Disney Plus sign-up offer is only available in the States, which includes a vanilla option for $6.99/month, a $70 annual subscription, and a bumper bundle for $12.99/month, which includes Disney Plus, Hulu, and ESPN.
