Your ORIGINAL argument was for the ‘on life support’ Digital HD until you realised that was a dead end and now you are championing Subscription. You continue to deprive yourself of top quality A/V and the reason for this is your setup is bang average. Streaming will look decent to you because you don’t know better. Streaming will sound decent to you because you don’t know better. While my system purrs when it gets a high quality source (UHD, Blu-ray) yours cackles and scratches. |

I was listening to a show about podcasts and the creators were mentioning how some broadcasters are deliberately slowing down their dialogue and being as clear as possible for folk who were listening at faster speeds. It got me thinking if speed watching does become the most popular way of watching, (90% or higher) that’s the way they would go with video as well. So, in effect the normal speed wouldn’t be available and they would just make everything more audible.
after all, podcasts are mostly listened to at higher speeds, that market recognises that. In the not too distant future, the industry might be accommodating faster speeds and normal speed is a artefact that no one bothers with. Also, machine learning could speed up and slow down where appropriate. For example, slow down action scenes and speed up all dialogue scenes on the fly with pitch adjustment. Looked at my Amazon history. Have only ordered 10 discs (only 3 non 4k) this year.
2 of them do not come until next month and Parasite probably not until Jan/Feb. I guess technically 11 as I bought my aunt Wizard of Oz 4k, but also bought the steelbook at Best Buy for myself |

EST on the other hand has not done well so its future is an unknown, would not be surprised to see Apple and maybe one more with EST in a few years. Over the years I have spent a fair amount on devices that could stream, current 3 that I am using have a combined cost of almost $900. I will order a 2019 Nvidia Sheild + IR receiver (another $230) after the Thanksgiving holidays. I stream a lot and have invested a fair amount of money into hardware but at the end of the day, for the most part, it is just pay TV. I do have a few DVD2HD that I stream because they are not available on BD or UHD BD. |

You could worry forever.... or watch stuff while it's available.
I'm going to worry less and watch more. I mean I have lots of stuff I haven't watched yet.... I understand concerns about things becoming un-available... but really maybe it isn't that much of a big deal ?... ![]() |

Amazon = 139 titles (15 of which came from Amazon U.K. and 1 from Amazon.fr) I don't readily know how many I bought elsewhere; I calculate that in January. Buying the new TV slowed my movie purchases as it nuked my toy budget for a bit. That's all I can play today. Carry on. |
