I’m very familiar with their history and agree with PhysicalMediaNut‘s assessment that they were ust trying to take the piss out. Unfortunately they weren’t playing to the right crowd

Well, giving my lack of time and internet I signed back up for a 2 disc plan with DVD/BD Netflix. I’d considered joining up at an actual video store the next town over, but it will be much easier popping over to my PO Box the next block over. That will preoccupy my time until I can get my finances in order and see what my options are afterwards.

Been there since 2006 except for a 2 year stint with Blockbuster by mail. When I restarted with Netflix they had retained my previous renting history. My average cost per movie with Netflix by mail is much lower (≈ $2) than electronic rental and Redbox disc rental (total cost, rental + mileage).

I was thinking about checking out a Family Video nearby since their website said they have 4K rentals. I haven’t found a Redbox that stocked any, and I am feeling a bit nostalgic thinking about the days of video stores. Curious if the one you were thinking about was also a Family Video since I see that have them in Texas. Good luck tomorrow with divorce process by the way.

A few post back it was stated there were only 3 brands of Blu-ray players remaining. A check shows there are 8 brands available, they are:
  • Denon (no UHD model)
  • LG
  • Magnavox
  • Microsoft
  • Panasonic
  • Philips
  • Pioneer
  • Sony
2 new UHD Blu-ray players have already been announced for later 2020 by Microsoft and Sony.

Walmart shows two Philips models as available for pickup. They also show a Sanyo player, do not have Sanyo on my list.

I think that’s the place gotmule It sounds like it, from your description. Because they do indeed rent 4K, although I haven’t upgraded my BD player to 4K just yet. I need to get a sleeper sofa and a few odds and ends first. Then I’ll look into upgrading my equipment. Debating on if I’m selling my Onkyo HT-S5300 or set it up until I eventually buy a new home

Wendell is correct; Panasonic owns Sanyo.

"Good news for Panasonic in the last 48 hours. The company announced yesterday that it now officially turned Sanyo into a subsidiary after acquiring a 50.27% stake in its smaller rival."

https://techcrunch.com/2009/12/22/pa...nel-plant-now/

"Panasonic Announces that it Makes SANYO its Wholly-owned Subsidiary through Share Exchange."

https://www.businesswire.com/news/ho...Share-Exchange

The next to last line of his own post even says it:

Watched the UHD version of Joker and they kept the Gary Glitter song intact, so no need t panic on the physical release omitting that. FYI

EDIT - just saw that the iTunes version has an exclusive Todd Phillips audio commentary.

So Doctor Sleep is getting the 3-hr director's cut released as a digital UHD exclusive. The BD and 4K discs will only be getting the theatrical cut. This is the same thing that was done with Midsommar. I see a pattern here. Doctor Sleep also bombed in the U.S., so the fact that we get anything like this is pretty cool.

You are incorrect. The 4K combo pack does include the director's cut, but only on the blu-ray disc that comes with it. Only the theatrical cut is included on the 4K disc.

The stand alone blu-ray edition includes the director's cut, also.

Midsommar includes the director's cut if you import it. It appears to be Region B locked, but that is only a problem for amateurs.

^ I was just going by Flannagan's tweets. I am not able to post them over, but if you go to Twitter and read his tweets along with responses, then you can see. Folks also were talking about it in the 4k thread of it in the subforums here.

The news story on the home page of this very website, link included with my post, makes it quite plain that the director's cut is included on blu-ray disc in both the 4K and the blu-ray editions. The cover art shows the same information as well. Online retailers, both domestic and foreign, also state that the director's cut is included.

Mr. Flannagan has said the same, just that it won't be on 4K disc. It appears that the director's cut will available via streaming and maybe with the digital code included with the 4K combo pack.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=255

Considering that this movie was not a financial hit, including only the theatrical cut on 4K disc was probably a cost cutting decision on the part of Warner Bros. As you and others have said, many feel that we are lucky that this film is getting any 4K release.

Mike Flannagan is the writer/director of Doctor Sleep. Looks like the confusion is that the BD and UHD streaming version will only contain the 3-hour cut. The 4K disc will not have the DC just the TC version.

It took me a bit to put that name to the movie.

However, the stand alone blu-ray edition includes both cuts the same as does the 4K combo pack; it is just that with the 4K combo pack the director's cut is only on the included blu-ray disc. The blu-ray cover art states that plainly along the bottom of the front cover and so does the product page here on blu-ray.com:
