Default The Wonder Years: The Complete Series $49.96 @ Walmart

I went to see The Happytime Murders last night before going to work. I decided to stop at Walmart before the movie and I'm glad I did because look at what I found! The complete series of the Wonder Years on DVD for only $49.96! I have been wanting to get the series at a decent price for a while now. My local Walmart only had 1 copy left and I immediately grabbed it!

So, if you have been looking to get this set at a decent price, check your local Walmart stores. They may have it there. This set is still $99 at Best Buy and over $100 on Amazon, so getting this for $50 is a steal!

A lot of places were saying that The Wonder Years would never come out on DVD because of the music licensing issues. Glad they were wrong!

Here's an interesting article about it:
https://www.vox.com/2014/11/3/714523...der-years-wkrp

Near the end of the article it explains how Ed and Malcolm in the Middle probably won't get a DVD/blu-ray release due to music rights licensing issues.

Got the locker a few years ago for about ~80. This is a great series, and a fantastic deal.

I remember reading that article, I think in the lead up to the release of Batman 66. Copyright law is just way too archaic, way too outdated. I'm of the mindset that if a show is in that pre-TV on DVD music clearances purgatory - it should default to a standard fair rate paid to all music people involved to re-clear it. Music is the heart of any TV or movie. Change it and it is not the same, no matter what they tell you.

Thanks for that article. I'll always be of the opinion that it was a real miracle we got the DVD set. I remember reading an article about 2 years ago regarding the possibility of a blu set being released of TWY. It mentioned the very real possibility depending on how well the 2nd DVD set sold, and it left it at that. I'm pretty happy with my DVD set, but one never knows.

The DVDs look terrible, particularly the first season. I'm glad they're out, but if they're not going to bother doing an HD master, they shouldn't bother putting them out on Blu.

so the order on amazon I mentioned is odd,
1st I get a shipping notice with tracking, but then the company sends another email, disregard all shipping notification emails since the item is out of stock and we will be refunding your money

now to see if i actually get the item since i did get a tracking number

ive been tracking this set for a while and there have been low stock and high prices of late. i was wondering if it might go oop. wonder how long the deal lasts with all the music rights etc...? it has been out for exactly 2 years.

might have to pick this up despite the video quality issues.

is all the music the same or did they have to change some of it?

They said 90% of it is cleared and there.

That's way better than the old netflix version. Did anyone see that? I think I saw the last episode, and the first episode. Strangely I had fond memories and saw quite a lot of the other episodes when it originally aired, but I never went back and saw the whole thing cover to cover.

There are a bunch of acknowledged changes, and a bunch of unacknowledged changes. There's half a season where one of the audio FX tracks seems to be completely missing, including stuff on the TV, creating an odd feel where the characters are sitting in total silence watching the TV.

The UK version still has the latter issues (because those changes were only pointed out after the fact, by an obsessive super-fan), but they do include all the music that the studio acknowledged was missing in the press release (something like 20 songs, spread out over the whole series). They are in PAL, but my understanding is that they are at least pitch-adjusted to *sound* right, even if they still have the speed up.

Whats the difference between this set and the more deluxe set? I notice the cheaper set has 4 less discs in it. Did the video quality take a huge hit or something else removed?

I started watching this on Friday. I watched season 1 on Friday. I'm finishing up season 2 now. I'll start season 3 tomorrow. Its really cool watching this show again. The first season is amazing! This show is so good and I'm glad I found the complete series at a decent price!

I'm about to pick this up but I see listings on ebay brand new for about $30. They're coming from China but say Region 1, same number of discs, same packaging, but a different UPC. Would there be differences on a set coming from China like missing the soundtrack or anything?
