For the sake of a balanced argument and based on actual figures, the 4K UHD format has been doing just fine in the U.K. Certainly the equivalent of in the states. Sure we don’t have the equivalent behemoths of Target/Best Buy/Walmart, but people who have adopted the format have bought discs in big numbers.

You only need look for articles about it to see there’s nothing to worry about...

https://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/n/4K-Blu-...Blu-ray-Market

There’s no second guessing what Disney U.K. do over here. They’ve been like it for years. Wouldn’t surprise me if there was a glut of sudden releases of catalogue 4K mouse titles we haven’t had over here yet.

The decline in buyers shopping on the high street in the UK is why you don’t see the wealth of titles in store that we were used to. HMV is still there, with everything present and correct - as it always has been.

The likes of ASDA were never big on Blu-ray presence anyway. They love DVD as it’s customers are the types that like big savings and not the ones who would drop £20 plus on a movie to take home with their groceries.

4K UHD is a niche format to a degree for sure. But it’s still doing fine. To compare title visibility in stores to what we were accustomed to with the glory days of DVD is madness in my eyes. It’s a different world now. Perhaps the UK’s high street have better adjusted to that fact than the US? The percentage numbers are pretty much the same on both sides of the Atlantic.

I like Aladdin's best for the clean, panoramic image, and The Little Mermaid's paint job is continually growing on me, but this is pretty nice. I just tend to prefer the ones that stick to one aesthetic on the front and back, myself, to the ones that have different art for the front and back. 101 Dalmatians comes to mind. It just looks like two halves of different steels stuck together. Imagine if the stained glass wrapped the whole way around or if it was all that deep purple color scheme.

Also, just noticing details, it seems the release is no longer considered an Anniversary Edition, which is fair since it's more it's 30th than 25th now. Guess they weren't going to round up to 30 years though like they did with Cinderella's 70th.

It's so weird that this is available for pre order before the Pixar films, which will be released earlier. Disney continues to be unpredictable.
In addition, of course no press release or trailer

Both the artwork for the steelbook and both of the discs look absolutely incredible! I’m definitely going to be pre-ordering in case this sells out quickly!

My kids don't care about 4K. The Blu-Ray already looks fantastic. With the hand drawn stuff, there isn't enough of a difference/upgrade for me to justify buying them. Do they look a bit better? Sure. But, I have found the other hand drawn titles from Disney to be pleasant, but nothing to gawk at or rush out to buy for $30 or more.

If and when this comes down in price, I'll grab it, but again - the Blu-Ray is already a beautiful thing. It makes me in less of a rush to grab this. And if I never grab it, I am ok with that too.

I'd never buy any movies if that was my judgement criteria. My kid is fine watching 360p YouTube videos.

I wonder if they’ll finally fix the colors?

HDR implementation guarantees they’ll at least look at them. The Little Mermaid release proves it doesn’t have to be a copy and paste of the existing blu. I feel like this is the last chance we have at them getting this right but who knows

What's wrong with the colors on the BD? First I've heard of an issue.

I can at least say from watching it in 4K on Disney+, that Belle's hair is back to being a straight brown, and not a reddish-brown.

Did the Disney+ 4K version (by any chance) have film grain?

Why would it? It's a digital movie.

No. It was digitally inked and painted. While it did have a film master when it first came out, Disney made a 2K digital master from the original files to create the current version since the diamond edition Blu-Ray.

It's kind of sad that Disney's first entirely digitally inked film, The Rescuers Down Under, still doesn't have a home media transfer taken directly from the digital source.

Also it's not just the colors, it's the brightness and contrast as well. The Blu-ray is too bright and doesn't have the correct contrast, which make the film lose shadows and depth. Beauty and the Beast should be darker than what's on the Blu-ray (you shouldn't see the Beast clearly before the "Come into the Light" scene).

It's not sad. I wish all their films were done that way, or at least have a version of that released.
