I couldn't withstand the temptation and just got this off of eBay.

Gonna sell the standalone releases of 1 and 2.

Yeah I doubt a 4 happens without them, given the performance of 3 and that they weren't even happy with the performance of 2. If a 4 does happen it would likely be some direct to video thing with b-listers.

After watching them all again last night, I think I really like these movies. They're obviously no Predator, First Blood, Terminator 2, Die Hard etc... but damn if this isn't a fun, well made send up of the lifeblood and soul of what so many of us grew up on. It's bonkers that even the first one happened, to get so many all-stars on board and get it greenlit, let alone do all 3 of them... shame what happened when the 3rd one came out.

You could say "they don't make movies like this anymore" but they don't even really make the movies that all these dudes came from in the first place. Not many at least. I can't even count on one hand people that you could put in a year 2040 equivalent of this. Most are cutting their teeth in superhero and war movies... not quite the same. Spirit of an age.

My problem with these movies honestly is that they don't feel like 80's action homages. They feel thoroughly modern with all the same faults and styles a modern action movie would have, they just happen to star famous actors from the 80s in most of the roles.

I have no idea what this guy is charging but eBay, PayPal and USPS fees are out of control.

10% to eBay, 3% to PayPal and $3 to ship. Not to mention the cost of the ship package and such.

Selling one of these sets on eBay for $30 doesn't even break even after tax.

I sold a blu-ray for $7.50 and put less than $4 in my pocket. I also sold an extra Doctor Strange 3D for $47 and only profited $6.

I have an extra Expendables Trilogy I'd be willing to sell, but unless I got $30 or more for it, it'd be easier to just return it.

Honestly, how much work do you do for $4?

I'm glad Expendables 3 was a basically a freebie because I consider it unwatchable. I tried lowering brightness and raising gamma but nothing made it look right. My new TV doesn't seem to have RGB Full settings though, as far as I can tell. Maybe that would have worked better.

In any case I watched the BD and the movie is pretty meh anyway.

I'm actually one of his buyers.

Cheapest way for me to get the Expendables triple pack especially considering I initially had bought the separate releases for the first two movies for about $28 each.

If Expendables 3 was a reference quality 4K experience (which by all rights it should have been), I would have bought this set to upgrade by my existing BDs.

As it is, I'm passing.

Lowering the brightness to between 25 and 30 did the trick for me. It's razor sharp and free of artifacts, too bad it had the blacks issue.

I could get the blacks to look alright but the movie still looked totally bleached of color and contrast compared to the BD.

Guess this is the one Expendables movie I don't need on 4K.

If your TV has an RGB Full mode you might get different results, but mine doesn't. I feel like the extended cut is the way to go anyway though, most of it is bullet hits and body drops cut for a PG-13 rating. Still no blood, but it definitely has more impact. Also movie is meh anyway.

Watched the second and third movie last week.

Ex 2 looks quite good I think when compared to the 1080p disc. Still wildly inconsistent but this seems to be all source related as mentioned before. I was not bothered by it as much as with the regular Blu-ray. HDR looks good too though not on the same level as the first movie.

Watched on a 65Z9D (ISF calibrated) + X800.

Third movie looked better ofcourse. I've only seen the 1080p disc once so can't really compare but the 4K disc has some very fine and great looking details on characters faces. Colors looked good to me too. Ofcourse there's the black level issue (seem to have a few of those in my collection: besides Ex 3 also Gatchaman, Divergent and Insurgent), luckily I was able to "by pass" it but this cannot be done on every TV/player combo it seems. Lionsgate should have fixed this fot the new release. If you can't use the workaround it looks horrible and unwatchable IMO.

As for the movie itself, I did like it better than the first time I saw it. It's still dumb fun like the first two and Gibson makes a great villain but the addition of "younger" Expendables was totally unnecessary. But the one thing that really bothers me is the lack of hard R-rated bloody violence. Making this PG-13 was a huge mistake, the so called "unrated" 1080p version does not change that unfortunately.

Watched on a 75X9405D (Self calibrated) + UB900.
