I don't care for him as a person, but he's made some damn fine films. That would be a good one to watch tonight. Husband is on the road and he dragged the son with him. Got the house to myself.

Guy might be a loon in real life but heís rarely misstepped as far as the quality of his movies. Could count the number of TC movies I donít care for on one hand lol

Yeah I know many people that are put off buy him, many just don't like the dude but he has probably the most consistent actor of all time. He's also worked the greatest directors of all time.

He has an impressive filmography. Sadly, him as a person has hurt him in some ways. I don't know if he'll ever be taken seriously enough to win an Oscar. I guess it depends if he can find the right film.

Yeah if he’s good enough for Kubrick and Spielberg and Scorsese and Pollack and Redford and PT Anderson and Stone and Coppola, he’s probably not terrible.

He was apparently rumored to play Charles Manson in QT’s upcoming flick, I was really hoping that would happen. TC playing a cult leader is some spot-on casting.

Knew this was coming!

Swiftly sold my steelbook a little while ago and the money made will easily cover this. Day 1!

That would be great if he had. It sure would take him away from the big blockbusters which I don't mind, but it's always nice to see an actor take on a risky role.

I’ve been wanting him to return to the types of roles he did more of in the 90s, but I guess he wants to keep making action movies while he still can. And hey, not gonna complain about that lol

Watched this on blu-ray with the missus a few nights ago. I enjoyed it more than she did (she'd never seen it before), but it's not top-tier Spielberg.

Fantastic audio, mind.

I remember blind buying this on DVD the first day it came out. Watched it that night, and turned it in for 4 dollars rental credit at Hollywood Video the next day just to get it out of my house. I wasn't even upset I lost money/time on it, I was just glad it was gone. Absolute garbage film. Sometimes I feel the need to reevaluate something I loathed down the road at some point. Not this one. Hooray for those who want it though.

Oh, and Tom Cruise is the shit, no doubt about it.

Would be nice if the extras include the so far unseen (and likely incomplete) "Camelot" scene in which Ray and his daughter have a run-in with several tripods on a street of abandoned, gutted buildings just before they make it into Boston at the end. I always thought the cut from Ray rescuing his daughter to the jump of them strolling into the city was too abrupt.

The movie has a lot of flaws especially the story, editing and pacing but the Tripod attacks are first-rate. And at least the Blu-ray was audio demo quality so I'll be looking to see if this 4K release is any sort of significant upgrade.

And yeah, those two kids were supremely annoying and unlikable, start to finish.

Nice. And it would be even nicer to get the '53 film!

I would watch the original once then be done with it. This however will be watched multiple times a year.

Funny you should mention that. Paramount quietly did a 4K restoration, which is now what's being used on iTunes as a 4K offering. It's making the rounds at film festivals and will soon be on various VOD services that offer 4K content. A physical release is apparently not on the table, either on BD or UHD-BD.

This has one of the tensest sequences on film in that era, it's underrated and part of the Bad Ass Spielbergo trilogy

Tom Cruise rocks, I don't care about his politics or religion, just his movies.
