Barry Lyndon really should get a release!

Thatís very debatable on what his greatest film is, it varies depending on oneís preference, sorry but to me itís Full Metal Jacket. Yet heís made some of the best films of all time.

It seems a film very well suited to HDR as well to me.

I'm not trying to argue against Barry Lyndon getting a UHD release (even though I personally probably won't be upgrading my Criterion blu ray). I just can't understand how anyone would want an UHD release of Barry Lyndon over A Clockwork Orange, considering the transfers we currently have available of the two. Even if you like Barry Lyndon more as a movie.

As much as I wish otherwise, I seriously doubt Barry Lyndon is ever getting a UHD. A Clockwork Orange and the two previous Kubrick UHDs are far, far more known.

I'm surprised this one didn't come before Full Metal Jacket. But maybe the next one will be my super-duper anticipated Eyes Wide Shut.

I think they're waiting for 2021 for the 50th of A Clockwork Orange.

And I'm happy to wait another year, just as long as we get it in 2021.

Just read an article by Digital Bits (someone tell me if they're a good source) but they say that WB has postponed the release to coincide with the 50th Anniversary. This bums me out because it really doesn't need an anniversary to sell well.

Yes, everyone assumes this considering next year is the 50th anniversary.
The worst part is that it probably won't be early 2021 either, but something like a October-November 2021 release. That's a lot of time for strangers to move into your appartement while you're in prison and steal your parents away from you.

They could just release it now and call it the 50th. Nobody would care

I really question whether a single purchase would be brought over the line by anniversary branding or promotion.

If you want this movie, you're going to buy it and if you don't, you won't.

The end.

I had a history teacher once who told us, "People don't really care about history... but they love anniversaries." I think there is a lot of truth in that.

UHD is an extremely niche format to begin with. The people who buy it will buy it regardless of anniversary. They're people like us, who are following the release schedules and know what particular movie is being released months ahead, and couldn't give a damn whether it has an anniversary or not. They are getting the movie because of improved picture quality, not because of some anniversary.

Maybe I could see a point of anniversary releases back when DVD was at its peak and everyone from the biggest videophiles to the most casual movie watcher who has since switched to streaming like it was nothing had a DVD player and only watched movies via DVD.
