While this is indeed true you can see inherent grain from the source. Something shot digital will not reflect that natural grain, it's either absent or artificially added.

Your IMAX theater has reclined seating? I thought IMAX didn't do reclined seats. The creator of IMAX doesn't like the idea of reclining to watch a movie...

I too am going to see this tomorrow night. I’m looking forward to it, except for the fact that the theater will be full, so I’m sure I will be surrounded by idiots that feel the need to pull out their fkn phone to text, tweet, update their status, or whatever the hell else they do on them. I’m liking going to the movies less and less these days, due to this issue. You may be thinking “then why are you going?”, which is a fair question. The answer, my friends, is I’m married, and this wasn’t my idea.

If my screening last night was anything to go by, I kinda doubt your theater will be full.

AMC is refurbishing their highly profitable IMAX theaters with new laser projectors and Dolby Cinema like reclining seats. I have one nearby. it's faumax and Watch lion King on it, and was impressed by the image quality that's onpar with Dolby Cinema and also their reclining chairs. So, IMAX and Dolby Cinema are almost on par with Dolby Cinema barely having upper end with their Atmos sound.

Northern Virginia's AMC Tyson's Corner's IMAX laser setup has new seats but they definitely do not recline

Saw this last night and thought it was phenomenal. Will be a fantastic looking 4k being that it was shot by Hoyte van Hoytema (Her, Dunkirk, Interstellar) on film. Hope this one gets a steelbook!

It lost its power in third act, but overall it's a good, original sci-fi with AMAZING worldbuilding and great visuals. Looking forward to revisiting it on UHD, especially brilliant Moon sequence.

IMAX looked marvelous. I can already picture the 4K in HDR10+ or possibly DV.

I really enjoyed it. Kind of an Apocalypse Now in space. Laser IMAX presentation looked great and I'm looking forward to the UHD release. I happened to see it with a bunch of people in the audience that worked on it and it was interesting overhearing some of the talk afterward as I left the theater.

Normally they get a special early screening. Things have changed.

just saw it in Dolby Cinema, like others already said very pretty picture and beautiful world building. Would love an extended cut to slow the pace a bit, even at 2 hours it felt kinda rushed at some moments..

Just walked in from a Dolby Atmos AMC showing. Absolutely beautiful imagery and nice meaty LFE at the right moments. I enjoyed the movie and I would be willing to bet the home theater presentation will be demo quality in certain scenes.

I do agree it felt rushed in a couple of instances, but my friend after fifteen minutes into it proceeded to take a twenty minute nap, he didn't dig this movie at all. My neighborhood non-Dolby Cinema screen, the presentation looked stellar, but the 5.1 soundmix was so average; how is the Dolby Atmos sound, is the surround sound more active?
