I agree, I thought the following was odd:

[Show spoiler]They went through great lengths to show Pitt's character covering for the unfit pilot. I thought they were setting up that he would end up helping him but no payoff, he tried to stop Pitt just like the others.
And if there was a point with the Baboon scene, I must have missed it.
The attack scene seemed to be added for action only, no way there would be terrorists running around on the moon near expensive rocket bases.

I think I agree with your friend. I saw this and Rambo this weekend, and I enjoyed Rambo so much more than this one.

The hell? I'm a huge Rambo fanboy and Last Blood was absolutely terrible.

I think when and if the change over to IMAX laser occurs - those recliners will be chucked out to the bin.

Itís funny how all over the map opinions are on the latest Rambo. Just by reading the thread on this site, lots hate it, lots love it. I loved it, and again, for me, was way more entertained by it than Ad Astra.

Mine does...it is brand new though. It isn't laser though which was a disappointment. Blacks are still grey

He
[Show spoiler]saw the same rage in himself as he saw in the baboon, the scene was all part of his character arc and understanding himself. You see the cracks starting to appear in his psych report straight after that attack

Consider yourself lucky! I may have to start going to that one. The AMC near my house in Columbia, MD has the standard seats in IMAX.

Saw it in IMAX last night, loved it. Hoytema is one of my favorite working cinematographers right now (I think Her is his best work, unpopular opinion but that's just me) but this will look insane on 4K if my IMAX showing was any indication. Loved that 30-minute
[Show spoiler]segment on Mars with the landscapes and various "comfort rooms"
as well. Aaaaaah!! Can't wait!!

Count me in on getting a copy of this in the future too. I quite liked it but not as much as some Gray's absolute best work like Lost City of Z or The Yards. Still, like all of his films, I felt a wave of melancholy after it was over anyway.

I tried lost city of z because I'd consider myself a fan of gray after Ad and We Own the Night but charlie hunnam just sucks horribly, I can't stomach the guy in a serious role.

Really? I thought he was incredible, really inhabited the role (especially in comparison to all the crap Hollywood kept throwing at him). Plus I'm a giant sucker for historical epics, so it was catnip for me.

Seeing this tonight in Dolby. Interested to see how I like it. Opinions seem to be all over the map with this one.

Saw this in IMAX yesterday (I can count the number of IMAX showings I've gone to on 1 hand), and while I liked the movie, I wasn't impressed with the picture quality. Could have been the theater (this particular IMAX has been around awhile), but I just expected a sharper picture; sound was OK (I've heard better in my home). Thought the story was original/unique (in some ways), and wondering if it will actually look better at home? At least I was able to charge my car for free in the parking lot!

So this starts to go with my interpretation...
[Show spoiler]Once he leaves Mars and is on his way, the "weird" portion during this travel is his psychotic break. Once he arrives and is interacting with his father, it seems is all something he is conjuring up. He lets his dad "go" and then ending up with his wife was all in his head to cope with everything.
Is that how you are interpreting it?

once AMC changes Columbia 14's IMAX to laser projection, that's when the new seats will be installed. No word on if they'll be 'recliners' but I highly doubt they'll be the red recliners that are installed in the regular auditoriums.

the new seats at the Rio and Tysons (IMAX laser auditorium) are these:

I saw it in Laser IMAX and noticed several soft shots as well, particularly mediums of Pitt (the close-ups were mostly fine). Either they were intentionally focused that way or there was some mild beauty pass done and baked into the DI. Like I said, I won't be surprised if there are cries of DNR when people watch the UHD.

Loved the movie until the final act. It unfortunately had a very basic ending, was hoping for something more.
