LOL, for big RG that's a first, I got so excited realizing they just secretly released a 4-layer BDXL...

I'd rather have a photo of the underside of the disc.

What's going on with the Amazon pre-order for the 4K release? Is it because it's Disney?

Indeed. If you are looking for a Disney movie on day one then Amazon should be the last place you go to.

This looks like the visuals are going to be absolutely amazing, is the first movie equally as visually impressive?

I haven't seen it yet and determining if I want to pick it up along with the 2nd one.

I haven't seen the 2nd one yet but it looks like the kind of ultra visual 4k experience I look for and going to pick it up.

I just watched this and have to say, Disney really stepped up and delivered such a stunning disc - the PQ and the Atmos mix left me thoroughly impressed.

It didn't suffer from the Dolby "atmouse" effect? Where volume and dynamics are typically softened on the Disney tracks.

no, and this also seems to be the case on 'The Jungle Book' UHD as well.

EDIT: I had forgotten I had to recalibrate my receiver due to another prior problem - so long story short, the Disney disc is set a tad lower in volume, but once you raise it to reference level, the dynamic range is impressive although like the IMAX theatrical engagement the bass is tad subdued but this is inherent to the original mix not to tinkering with recalibrating/disc audio encoding.

This movie is very vacuous, much like the first one. The story just seems so weak and I keep checking the time. These Maleficent movies are definitely ranked at the bottom of the recent Disney live action remake movies, even below Dumbo.

The story is weak, the direction is clinical and there is zero charm whatsoever.

I have the first one on 4K & 3D. I just picked this up in 4K and was planning to get the 3D as well. Now I think I will sell all of it. They are just no good. Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella all seem like masterpieces compared to this nonsense.

Admittedly, I watched this immediately AFTER Jungle Book 4K, which is another excellent live action remake, but Maleficent 2 just doesn't hold a candle to it.

I'm starting to have much less tolerance for mediocre movies and I think this exemplifies the type of movie not worth re-watching.

I was a fan of the first movie, so I rented this with my girlfriend to watch it last night and I must confess, I came away disappointed. On paper, this does a lot of things a good sequel SHOULD do - Expand the story and the world, give the side characters more urgency to the plot, amp up the visual palette - while the performances are uniformly good and it's paced well but whilst watching it, I couldn't help but feel disengaged by it. It lacks the strange novelty the first had whilst also going for a story that feels over-complicated when it actually isn't.

She, on the other hand, seem to like it on par with the first and I'm glad she did but damn, I couldn't hide my disappointment with this. Maybe if I give it another watch down the road I'll like it more (the same happened with the original to me, where it took more viewings to actually embrace it) but eh.

But visually still stunning in 4k right?

How do the visuals compare to the first one?

Just got my copy from DMC and a good looking lithograph to go with it.

Watched this last night and was definitely underwhelmed compared to the first film. The pacing and script on this film are all over the place. Visually it is just as appealing as the first film, but it falls into what I personally refer to as 'sequalitis' extremely quickly. The film literally ends almost 30 minutes before it actually ends making the third act a bit painful. 6/10.

I thought it looked fantastic in 4K - better than the IMAX laser theatrical presentation I saw which in comparison looked 'soft'

speaking of the creatures look and design, I had forgotten how much it resembled the CGI animated movie "Strange Magic"

Linda Woolverton seemed to improve a bit as a screenwriter from what I saw In this movie. She actually wrote clever and well timed dialogue in this film.

Interesting this came out the same exact time zombieland 2 did. Two sequels that took way too long to come out and both greatly disappointing their respective fan bases and probably ending the chance of another film.

The difference is Maleficent didnít really need a sequel, and unlike Zombieland, was not planned from the beginning and only greenlit because it was a financial success.
