Hated Suicide Squad but the BoP trailer they showed before Uncut Gems looked surprisingly decent. Not sure this'll be worth a theater trip (good reviews could sway me), but it's a CBM so I'm sure I'll see it eventually.

Second unit director is fine. I just donít want him as action director. (Movies shouldnít have action directors at all, but especially not him. )

"Second unit" pretty much is "action" director. Plus there were several articles published last August talking about how he was brought into bring his touch to the action scenes. Probably best for you to skip this one if you don't like his work

Uh...no. Not necessarily, no.

Again, "bringing a touch" is fine. I just don't want him literally directing the action scenes.

He's going to be directing the action scenes. Bank on it. And nobody in the articles literally said "bringing a touch", those were my words paraphrasing the gist of those articles. I think you're SOL on this one

I canít stand his (and many other modern action movieís) hyper-choreographed style. Leaves me utterly cold.

Which will just add to the box office, thus ensuring more people employ Chad Stahelski for their action choreography, lol indeed.

@ brainof

What do you mean by "hyper choreographed"? Is it that it's too slick, like a dance?

Yeah, pretty much. It just feels like a person dancing like liquid perfection thorough a sea of faceless stuntmen. It does nothing for me at all. It’s John Wick, it’s Anna, it’s The Raid - it’s a lot of modern action movies. Very much the “in” style. I get why people like it but it’s not my thing as someone who responds mainly to messy, clumsy action (Die Hard being a prime example).

It’s not always a death sentence for a movie; ultimately it’s about the direction and how those sequences are filmed and edited, and if they mean something or evoke some thrilling sensuality. It’s possible (I actually really liked John Wick 2 - it’s 1 and 3 I hate). Just depends on the execution. But yeah when I see Leitch and Stahelski involved with an action movie I generally fear the worst.

Itís not like the action choreography is the sole thing my opinion of this movie will hinge on.

The trailer is putrid but I love suicide squad and Robbie's Harley. Probably will buy. I don't know why dc makes these films look so drained of color and sterile looking though when the posters are covered in bright colors and neon. Itd be nice if the film looked striking too.

Imagine hating John Wick 3, that's rough man.

Sterile and drained of color? Are you sure youíre not confusing DC movies with Marvel movies?

Suicide squad looked pretty neutral for how they marketed it. I always wished Man of Steel had a more robust color palette too. Still enjoy both.

Fair enough. I can dig smash-mouth action, and in something like Die Hard it makes perfect sense because McClane is a junkyard dog, but as someone who grew up watching Hong Kong action movies where this 'hyper choreographed' style is a way of life then I love seeing these murderous professionals go to work in western-made action movies. You're not the only one left cold by JW3's style but I thought it was extraordinary, I haven't seen such dense action like that outside of genuine martial arts cinema and I can't think of a higher compliment. As such, I look at the action in the BoP trailer and I can only emit a girlish squeal of delight.

John Wick 3 is one of the greatest action movies I've ever experienced. I don't know how 4 can top it but I have faith.
