Rephrased:

There is a 'Collectors Tin' edition of Avatar advertised on Ezydvd.com.au, but no Steelbook listed.

You know, I was kind of expecting this. I don't really have an intention of purchasing this version due to the lack of special features which are of interest to me, but the potential for a steelbook at Big W for $28.94 would make it really tempting.

The image certainly appears to be a steelbook so fingers crossed it actually is.

I like the metal slip cases, they are so well made & some are even embossed not to mention some are numbered, hope to see a release of the film on a slip-case

They are nice, but steelbooks are nicer.

I almost bought this yesterday at JBhifi. but didn't.. it is still too recent..
I like to wait a while after cinema - home release before buying a BD of a movie
eg:Zombieland has been out on bluray since March (USA).I still have not bought it online..
prefer to buy older movies first.
Older or hard to find movies take priority with me.
I like to have a lag time before purchasing recent movies not long since at cinema..
eg: Hardware.. Arlington Road..Flatliners, Wolf.. on BD otr not even that old either but some 6-12 months atleast

no 3-D ? pfft.. i have seen movies in 3-d and there is blues and yellows and other colours despite the coloured glasses for anaglyph.. i have coraline in 3-d and its just like 2-D colourwise.
i am used to watching Avatar in 3-D i only saw it in 3-D.
i thought i'd not enjoy it as much in 2-D now i can't watch some movies in 2-D..

god damn it this movie is not in 3-D , this and a handful of others on BD not in 3-D..cloudy with a chance of meatballs, monsters vs aliens, bolt, meet the robinsons(i was told was originally in 3-D in some cinemas)

the lack of a 3-D option is why I have not bought them on DVD/BD..

Mate, you're better off waiting at least a year for 3D. Oh, unless you've got $3700 burning a hole in your pocket and don't mind that buying you just a 46", in which case go right ahead. Oh, and you'll need a somewhat expensive 3D-capable Blu-Ray player too, so you're looking at a bare minimum of $4k. Only the "more money than sense" crowd are taking that option right now.

Additionally, the 3D effect in Avatar just wasn't that pronounced. It was a lot more subtle than most; kudos to James Cameron for not just throwing stuff at the screen all the time. I'm actually picking up on details watching it in 2D that I didn't notice in 3D, likely because of how 3D is really just a trick achieved by having to put glasses on.

That said, they're obviously milking it by releasing this thing now. Hell, it's still showing in cinemas out here (no doubt because the seats are still filling up). I don't think a release now was warranted, and that thing you said about buying on a whim and getting pissed when they release better versions down the track, I can totally relate to that.

It's still a fantastic Blu-Ray, the quality is unparalleled. I don't care about the additional 6 minutes, so I won't be heading back into the theatres to see it again, and sometime next year when I've finally been able to afford a 3D screen of my own, I'll be happy to then go and pick up the 3D Blu Ray of this one.

i wont buy a 3-d TV.. the anaglyph glasses work fine for me.
the 3-d TV option will be a major pain in the ass for ppl .
having to fork out money just for goggles and batterys for these damn shutter glasses.. what not..
i say they should stick with anaglyph.. u get used to the weird colours if they can be described that way.

i 'd rather see it on the big screen in 3-D than buy on bluray and watch in lame 2-D on my TV set.

Then why were you saying your not going to buy the 2D version of 'Journey to the Center of the Earth' . Your completely contradicting yourself in each post.

You must be on crack if you think Coraline in 3D has the same colour space in Anaglyph, as it does in 2D.

It's not even close, and thats why Anaglyph sucks.

Fair enough mate, you're welcome to look at the new 3D whichever way you want to.

I picked up that Journey to the Center of the Earth a while back, and while it's nice being able to watch that anaglyph 3D tech using just existing screens, it can't hold a candle to this much newer 3D - stereoscopic, I think they're calling it.

That said, I find any 3D where you have to be wearing glasses to get the effect to be somewhat gimmicky, and I have enjoyed Avatar just as much on 2D as I did watching it in 3D.

I will upgrade in the future though, but that's only when the price is pretty much where standard hi-def sets are now. This $3700 for 46" crap, not a chance in hell. They bring out a projector that can do 1080p 3D for about $3k AU... then I'll start saving

I would expect that will be a reality by mid next year. I already have the money set aside as I started saving towards it early last year.
