Default With Oppo going out...What's the alternatives???

Don't know if I can pull the trigger on another Oppo right now since I just closed the deal on dual PSA S3000i subs so I gotta ask:

If Oppo isn't an option anymore what would be the alternatives that you guys would recommend?

Thanks in advance!!!!

P.S. If I could but another Oppo right now I would! My Oppo is THE BEST player I've ever owned!!!!

Good thread.

I'm going to buy a 4K Oled TV next month, and that means that I won't be able to afford picking up the Oppo UHD until September or October. Now that Oppo have effectively gone belly-up, I'm wondering what the best alternative is, as it's possible that the Oppo might finally be out of my price range, as it will hit "collector" level prices.

Any useful info is most welcome. Thanks

The new upcoming Panasonics look good for movies anyway HDR/+10/HLG/Dolby Vision included . They don't do Dvd-A or Sacd but they do CD MKV , Internet Apps ( Netflix) and Mch Flac .

Wont be cheap but probably in the same range as Oppo

Cambridge CXUHD looks to be basically the same as the OPPO, but 100.00 more in price ...

I've been looking at that. I can't find anywhere that talks about a BD multiregion mod.

You can buy another Oppo if you want. Online retailers should still have some left in their inventory to sell, but Oppo Digital is just not going to be manufacturing them anymore, but still offer their Technical Support to assist their current customer for any troubleshooting they may have. If you decide to get another Oppo Blu-ray Player, you better hurry before people start buying multiple units to flip and sell on ebay at astronomical prices.

Doesn't Cambridge get parts from Oppo for their players though?

It is my understanding that the guts are the same as the Oppo.

No. Although the player is made by BBK (Oppo Electronics), and share same MT8591 they have similar but different boards. Still they are still a viable option if you want to go that route. They cost more in the USA vs how Oppo costs more in the UK.

I stand corrected. Boy, that Cambridge Audio looks naked inside compared to the Oppo.

Well they have their differences the power supply is shielded in the CXUHD comparably, it also has a heatsink on the video CCA where the 203 doesn't. You can see similarity if you look closer.

That's sad the Cambridge doesn't even have a linear power supply.

I have the Cambridge unit. I have no complaints. I have never owned an OPPO but the CXUHD is heavier and from what I can tell the picture quality is not as bright/vivid (but that's a plus for me). The sound quality of my FLAC files have never sounded better (it does play SACDs, too). Sad to see OPPO bow out. These two universal players (along with the Sony X1000ES) are pretty much at the same high level.

Do you know if a BD multiregion mod is available for the Cambridge? Thanks

Didn't see any. Its problematic when thinking of alternatives. For example you have to use some hacked enhanced FW or remote to make a DMP-UB700/704, DMP-UB900 region free.

Sorry, I don't know of any. I believe it's dvd region free out of the box but not for bds. If the motherboards are identical between the two players theoretically the mod for the OPPO might just work but I'd be afraid to try. Maybe someone else out there has tried it?

If you don't need SACD/DVD-A the Panasonic DP-UB9000 is looking like a solid replacement. Also supports HDR10+ which the Oppo currently does not.
