Any fans of the point-&-click adventure genre here? It and it's 3D spin-offs have remained my favourites throughout the years.
It was certainly most popular in the 1990s with classics from developers like LucasArts and Sierra. We were spoiled with the likes of:
and a lot more I could mention. I'm sure most fans of the genre know these games well. The genre seemed to be more or less dead by the time we hit the 2000s outside of some obscure indie releases. But over the past 10 years it's begun to flourish again, although the releases may not be hitting the best sellers lists like they used to. We've had releases that have stayed with the traditional 2D point and click style:
And then there are the games that have embraced 3D. Here is where the genre can diverge into something else, but to me many of these still have the spirit of storytelling and exploration that traditional adventure games have:
I'd say there's even an argument for more action heavy games like Uncharted to be regarded as adventure games. Both older and indie games are getting releases on modern consoles like the PS4 and Switch, and services like GOG have enabled us to buy old forgotten adventure games easily. Plus we have been getting updated remasters of classics! Last edited by LeftHandedGuitarist; 02-20-2021 at 01:12 PM. |

Beautiful Desolation, from the creator of Stasis, is out on February 26th.
Also, the annual Aggie Awards for 2019 were recently held over on adventuregamers.com. They have multiple awards categories and for both staff picks and readers choices. The overall adventure game of the year was [Show spoiler] . I haven't played that yet, but it's intrigued me ever since it was released.Full list here: https://adventuregamers.com/articles/view/39494 |

When you mentioned action, adventure games, the thought on my mind was easily the Drakengard/Nier series because of the lore and what carries over one from game in the series to the next in spite of the thousands of years that pass.
Let's also not forget Emil on this. But if anyone wants to bring up RPG's in adventuring, I do think Phantasy Star and Final Fantasy always fit the bill best. |

Visual Novel games on game consoles and PC are considered Adventure. And by Visual Novels I am mostly referring to the Dating Sim kind that I enjoy. Most of thes mentioned are more Action-Adventure or at least RPG Adventure, but then you have ones that are strictly just Adventure. Though some Dating Sims have had RPG gameplay or some kind of gameplay besides just making choices for different endings, but those don’t happen much since the gameplay portion in those feel like they should have just stuck to just story instead of adding gameplay as just some added bonus.

A new Humble Bundle is up for Double Fine games, it includes Day of the Tentacle (Remastered), Full Throttle (Remastered), Grim Fandango (Remastered) and Broken Age.
It's also got the Double Fine Adventure video documentary series which details the making of Broken Age, and is probably the most detailed and comprehensive doc ever made about video game creation. |

Wet Dreams Dry Twice, new Leisure Suit Larry game is coming on October 15th, looks to be a sequel to 2018's Wet Dreams Don't Dry.
I've not played the previous one myself, in fact my experience with the Larry games is pretty limited. I used to try and play the original back when I was a kid but would often get stuck on the age-check questions at the start! ![]() |

I just finished playing A Short Hike. It's charming, peaceful, funny, short and possibly my favourite gaming experience of the past couple of years. I can't recommend it enough.
It's an open-world exploration adventure, but the world is very contained. The goal is to reach the summit of the mountain at the centre of the island, but you can take your time to help out the island inhabitants with side quests or just explore and collect items. The dialogue really shines, it made me laugh out loud a lot. Just absolutely lovely. I didn't want it to end. I finished it in a little over 3 hours, but I want to go back and try to get all the achievements. |

Yet another Myst remake incoming! This time it's in VR. I can see this game working very well in that medium, though I do wish that the sequels would get shown some love and be updated.

I picked Deliver Us the Moon from Game Pass on Windows to play since it was advertised as a quick game. It ended up being a walking simulator with puzzle and timed platforming elements. I felt a lot better once I realized it wasn't a survivor horror game. It was beautiful and I especially liked how the music went silent when you were on the moon's surface. Overall, it's a nice cinematic experience.
