Yeah. Might miss a key line of dialogue.

AMC Theatres On Demand Utilizing Whip Media Platform

Quote:
Software platform and data provider Whip Media Aug. 25 announced that AMC Theatres is using Whip Media’s solution for its video on demand business, AMC Theatres On Demand.

AMC Theatres On Demand offers more than 5,000 movies from every major studio and independent film distributors, available for purchase or rent.

Using Whip Media’s platform, AMC Theatres manages the end-to-end process from content management to paying studios. Whip Media drives film selection, asset ordering, pricing and merchandising and calculating license fees due to studios and device partners, according to the company.

“Utilizing Whip Media’s platform, allows for more collaboration leading to greater efficiencies, thus allowing us to get more value from our content,” said Nikkole Denson-Randolph, VP of content strategy and inclusive programming at AMC Theatres. “The ability to automate our VOD supply chain, and seamlessly connect to our studios and content readiness partners, provides a huge advantage and ability to drive growth in our business.”

“AMC is a true innovator in the industry for providing a premier movie-watching experience to viewers in the theater or at home,” said Carol Hanley, president of Whip Media. “We’re thrilled to have partnered with AMC to power AMC Theatres on Demand for their millions of customers and provide an infrastructure that is efficient and scalable.”

Sony's gung-ho on the theatrical experience:

https://deadline.com/2021/08/sony-ci...me-1234819844/

Sony, which was last seen at CinemaCon in 2018, brought the confab back to post(ish)-pandemic life today. Its President of the Motion Picture Group, Josh Greenstein, took center stage

Greenstein continued: “Debuting movies simultaneously in theaters and in the home is devastating to our collective business.”

“Our movies will be seen exclusive first in our movie theaters,” said Greenstein. “Movie theaters and the theatrical movie experience will triumph.

“I saw Free Guy on Cape Cod,” Rothman told the crowd which included an army of Regal Cinemas’ managers.

“That film has done great business because, number one it’s terrific and number two, you actually can’t watch it at home on television! Go f***ing figure. You remember Bill Clinton and it’s ‘the economy stupid?’ It’s the window stupid! Yeah, we’re not too bright out in Hollywood but we’ll figure it out.”

Sony “values theatrically above all media”; that the studio is a home for filmmakers looking to impact the cultural conversation with big-screen fare.

Sony - the King Of Hypocrites!

Sony sold Greyhound to Apple+

Sony licensed Happiest Season to Hulu

Sony sold Fatherhood to Netflix

Sony sold Hotel Transylvania 4 to Amazon

None of the above 4 movies had a theaterical release. So this statement is noting but pure bullshit!

What we have here is a small clique demonising Jedi because he believes captions at the cinema would be distracting. Well, of course they would! That’s not to say it isn’t a good thing for the hearing impaired, but for hearing customers, that would be distracting for sure.

For me, looking at it from a distraction viewpoint, I do t see how anyone would argue that point.

The real question should be, ‘would People overlook captions so that the deaf community could enjoy films without having to wear glasses’?

I honestly think it would split opinion. £10 per ticket isn’t cheap if you find yourself easily distracted. I agree with Jedi, many would just stay home.

Not sure how I would feel, what I will say is that many people won’t watch films with subtitles and miss out on some great films. To watch forced captions on every film, I don’t see that being popular.

Maybe if AR glasses do hit the mainstream, that stops being a issue.

Get with the times. It's Hearing Impaired not Deaf as I and others here are not deaf - just hearing impared. Stand on my right I can barely hear a word you are saying. Stand on my left, I clearly hear you.

You live in the UK. Did they do the same there they did here in the US? Make all crosswalks ramps - no longer curbs so those in wheel chairs can safely cross streets?

How about important news briefs. Is there a person signing for those that are hearing impaired?

How about elevators? Does each floor button have a braille symbol also? For the Sight Impaired.

See - we have made adjustments for physically impaired people. But we shouldn't do that for movies because that will spoil it for some.

Hey, Steedeel - have you been to a theater actually showing movies with open captions?

A simple yes or no will do.

I mention hearing impaired and deaf literally in the same paragraph for that reason.
Those examples you give are not asking people for £10 per ticket. That’s the difference.

I do t know the exact numbers but I believe hearing impaired represents around 18% of the US population. Can cinemas even afford to piss off the majority of film fans? That’s a question, not a statement.

Which is the same as people spending their leisure time at the cinema and voluntarily paying £10 for entertainment?

Actually you began your post paraphrasing Jedi who used the moniker "hearing impaired." It was you who said "the deaf community" so let's get that straight from the getgo.

I am fearful of big dogs. Like German Shepards. Yet I accept them with no qualms when they accompany their owner into a restaurant because they are Guide Dogs. I am paying good money to eat in that restaurant, and I definitely don't want any animals in there with me let alone a big dog. But I understand physical impairments and accept the fact that we are not all at 100% peak health and well being

Does the fact that there is a big dog near me ruin my dining experience? No - not ruin, just modify it a little. And at the same time I say:

"By the grace of god, there go I."

BTW . . . about 15% of all adults over the age of 18 report some trouble hearing. You can look that up on Google.

I would have give you the follow up in the one post.

It wasn’t a cinema that permanently shows those captions, it was at the request of the creatives involved. The film was Sound Of Metal. You asked a question, I answered truthfully.
