Ah, so then the answer is "no", you have never been to a regular cinema just using open captions for all or most of their movies?

Sound of Metal, for obvious reasons, is an exceptional case.

I am fearful of big dogs. Like German Shepards. Yet I accept them with no qualms when they accompany their owner into a restaurant because they are Guide Dogs. I am paying good money to eat in that restaurant, and I definitely don't want any animals in there with me let alone a big dog. But I understand physical impairments and accept the fact that we are not all at 100% peak health and well being

Does the fact that there is a big dog near me ruin my dining experience? No - not ruin, just modify it a little. And at the same time I say:

"By the grace of god, there go I."

BTW . . . about 15% of all adults over the age of 18 report some trouble hearing. You can look that up on Google.
I was using my own words. I know the difference, i have worked in social care for ten years. I probably have a better understanding than most on these issues. I know the real world and it doesn’t work as smoothly as you guys seem to think.

I watched The Day After Tomorrow, Blitz, and The Desolation of Smaug in foreign theaters with subtitles and barely even noticed them. I wouldn't mind subtitles at all and would probably pick up on some lines that I'd miss otherwise.

I would have paid extra for subtitles on TENET.

Yet you are more than happy to start offering opinions about things you evidently haven't even experienced for yourself, or know anything about.

Instead of coming here and actually ASKING people who may have more experience than you with these things and trying to learn more about them before, you know, getting to the point where you could actually have an informed opinion?

Correct. Most changes require dragging people kicking and screaming about their rights or their entitlement. But the changes get made. We have become a global society that caters to all. We shouldn't leave minorities behind. This is 2021 not 1955.

So how about those Anti-Vaxxers?

If the goal is to get as many people into theaters, there needs to be accommodations for all. Right?

So, we have a signer in the corner of the screen and descriptive audio to cover all bases? Do people still pay £10 for their ticket? I’m just being realistic.

Exactly that, it's the 21st century FFS, let's actually live like it.

We don't get to live in a better world unless we all work for it. And the person you are making the world a better place for could be your children, your spouse, your best friend.

You are absolutely not being realistic in the slightest because you have never been to a theater that's doing it. I have.

Absolutely. But can cinemas risk putting off hundreds of thousands with open captions? Remember, this is not theatre where captions can be generated electronically above props, lighting, actors heads etc.. It’s captions on a huge screen.

No, you are being sarcastic. Captions will do just fine. It would definitely get me to go back to the movies.

I have. For one specific film. Sound of metal had open captions for many parts. I have experienced it. So do we have a signer in the corner of the screen and descriptive audio to cover all bases? I asked once already. Do we start covering part of the screen for People who prefer sign language? Or descriptive audio for those moments where blind people can’t determine what is happening, certain actions by a character for example? Do we have this the entire film like a talking book? When there is no dialogue, there is descriptive audio.

If so, are people who are not hearing and sight impaired still happy to pay £10.

You still don't even understand how this actually works... You demonstrate this with each and every one of your posts.

That is an absolutely different thing, that was a movie specifically about a person experiencing hearing loss and it was done with the deaf and hard of hearing community in mind.

You have NEVER been to a cinema doing open captions for general release movies.

Guess you never went to another country like Italy or France and gone to see a Hollywood movie. Captions are a way of life. They rarely redub them like they used to decades ago.

Director's intent is king. If a director wants the movie shown that way everywhere, he/she can put it on the prints. The artistic vision of the director always should override what the audience wants.

So you're saying movies at home shouldn't be captioned or have subtitles for people in other countries unless the director personally approves?

That’s a choice at home though. Enabled with a simple key press.
