I prefer the Regal ad over AMC's Nicole Kidman ad, even though the ad for Regal is poorly executed. Most of the lines don't make much sense in their context. It's still better than the Kidman ad, which at this point has worn out it's welcome. It also shouldn't be the last thing before the movie starts. It should come before the "don't talk, don't text, don't ruin the movie. Enjoy the show." piece. Which leads me to my next post...

Well, it happened again! I had to tell people to be quiet during a movie today (well, actually yesterday now). I went to see Everything Everywhere All At Once Today at an AMC in a mall. This theatre has many small auditoriums. The one I saw this movie in had 38 seats. I booked my seat in advance, middle seat third row, which is right in the middle of the auditorium. Two people were sitting in the row in front of me off to the side. Another 1 or 2 people behind me off to my right. Then there were two people behind me off to my left. They were the last ones to sit down. During the preshow, they were talking at a moderate volume, as well as the people in front although quieter. Since this was only the preshow, I didn't pay it much mind. Then the trailers started. The two people behind me to my left continued talking at the same moderate volume, which again, although annoying as I consider trailers to be an art form in itself, I let it slide. At one point during the trailers, one of the talkers left to I guess use the bathroom or get concessions. That was during one of the trailers that looked interesting and I was able to enjoy it due to no distractions. After that trailer, the talker returned to join her talker friend to continue the conversation. By the way, the conversation was about mundane things that happened during their day. They were both very engaged in the full-fledged conversation that I began to worry. I was starting to come up with ways for me to tell them to be quiet in case they continued when the movie was playing. I was trying to think of a way to be polite but firm at the same time. Well... the movie started and wouldn't you know, the pair didn't miss a beat and continued to have a conversation at a moderate but clearly heard volume about things that have nothing to do with the movie. I was ticked off! I heard a woman tell her companion, "Seriously?". That's when I knew I had to say something. So I yelled out, "Time to stop talking!". (There goes my well-thought out plan of being polite! Lol) After that they were quiet throughout the rest of the movie! (Aside from them laughing at certain moments in the film.) Good thing too, because there are a few scenes, notably
[Show spoiler]the scene with the two rocks
that would've been ruined if they were still talking. While the credits began to roll, they started talking again but this time quieter. I don't mind talking during the end credits much. I always stay until the end of the credits and the two talkers were still there a little more than halfway through them so I thought maybe they were going to say something to me but eventually they left with no incident.

I hear a lot of people complain about rude people at movie theatres and that it seems like it's a small percentage compared to respectful people so we shouldn't have to tolerate this kind of behavior.

There used to be staff in auditoria to make sure people behaved. Here in the Uk, that ended in the mid-80s, unfortunately.

I probably have a target on my back for how many children I kick out weekly for talking. It is a small percentage, and it's usually only on Friday and Saturday, but it happens weekly. I don't give them their money back either because how else are they going to learn.

I give each guest one chance. I go into the theater and tell them "if you keep talking/texting/whatever you'll be out with no refund" and if it continues, they're out.

For my wife and I, it's not a small percentage... and it's been that way for several years. We used to love going to the theater.

I remember when ushers use to walk the aisles with flashlights and show people to their seats. The days of old....

I hate these new ones from Paramount thanking audiences for watching it in a theater. (Babylon, Scream 6)

Who knows, it could just be my local amc. This showing had cut the clips from Wonder Woman, Creed, etc.

Lol no. Zoomers want to pay as little as possible and don’t care where they sit because they’re usually just talking or watching Tik Toks on their phones anyways. At least this has been my experience with ~80% of Gen Z that come into my theater.

Hmm I'll keep an eye on the ad next time I see it to see if it was cut at the one I go to.

Same here, and that's if our rapidly aging-out youth even come into the theater at all: the mildly amusing "GentleMinions" Tiktok trending meme challenge led to a horde of Zoomers buying tickets to Minions: The Rise of Gru and taking a selfie at the theater while decked out in a suit...seeing the film was not required.

I wonder if the theater chains, or Disney, could pay some Tiktok influencers to make that happen again? It's almost genius. Disney had a good thing going with Black Panther when the "#BlackPantherChallenge" prompted beaucoup celebs (eg: Ellen DeGeneres) and other deep pocketed folks to openly straw purchased tickets to it for large groups, but GentleMinions was a next-level "big brain move" because it got the Zoomers to buy their own tickets.
